HJ-"V1 tr Majority in North Carolina Against Liquor About 50,000 New Law Drastic. RALEIGH, N. C, May 28. North I Carolina was carried for statewide I prohibition today by a majority es timated at 40,000 to 42,000 on re ports received up to midnight. The Prohibition ticket carried 78 out of the 98 counties by overwhelm ing majorities. The Piohlbltlon tic ket has carried 20 counties by majorities approximating 5G00. This calculation is partly based upon es timates and the Prohibition leaders say that it is possible for the Prohi bition majority to reach 50,000. The election passed off very quiet ly, no disturbances of any Importance being reported. The total vote cast In the state was about 175,000. Every large town In the stato ex cept Wilmington and Durham went prohibition Under the regulations of tho pro hibition bill submitted to tho people there will be no manufacture or sale of intoxicating liquors In tho stato after January, 1909. SALOONS AS AN INDUSTRY.
