Hayes was called to Coquille this week by the illness of her mother, Mrs. Brown. Mrs. Brown Is an invalid and had a sudden relapse. ' Mayor L. J. The funeral of Allen Varney, the five year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Willis Varney of Eastside, who was drown ed in the Bay, will be held from the Catholic church at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon, May 4th. The funeral of Andrew Soderlund, the Coos Bay young man who committed suicide In Simpson Park at North Bend, was held this afternoon from the Swedish Lutheran church, the Rev. B. F. Bengston officiating. The services were attended by many friends. Llhhy Pioneer Buried. Mrs. P. Brynn, the Llbhy pioneer who died Thursday night of henrt disease, was held today. The services were con ducted at the home in Llbhy at 12 o'clock by the Rev. D. W. Thurston. A number of members of the Marsh fleld Rebekah Lodge participated in the ceremonies at the grave. No Baseball Sunday. Manager Arthur McKeown announces that the proposed practice baseball game at North Bend Sunday has been call ed off owing to number of the play ers desiring to go to Bandon on an excursion. Ho is arranging to have North Bend for a game a week from tomorrow, May 10, if the weather will permit the use of the local grounds. PROF. RAYMONDS. COX has returned from a week's visit at the home of his son, II. B. Cox, at Ten Mile. M. T. OTIS and daughter have moved to Marshfleld from Hager inan, Idaho, and expect to mako permanent home here. ROBERT E. SHINE of Empire City, manager of the Southern Oregon Company, was In Marshfleld today on business and calling on friends. MRS. J. HAMILTON. was reported critically ill today. A consulta tion of physicians was held but very little hope was held forth for her recovery. MISS JANET DAVISON, a popular young lady of Oakland, Oregon, passed thru Marshfield en route to Bandon, near where she Is going to teach school, beginning Monday. WENDA JOHNSON, the baby daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur John son, who has been quite ill, is re ported better and will soon bo taken home from the General hos pital. The Baptist's Young People's Union held an enjoyable session with Claude Stutsman at the R. O. Stutsman homo last evening, about fifty being present. A brief busi ness session was held during which missionary work was discussed and also means of increasing tho local organization's contribution towards tho support of Bible instructors in foreign lands. Following this, Vlnco Pratt favored tho audience with some pleasing vocal selections, and others contributed instrumental selections. This was followed by games and refreshments. MRS. WM. WADE has written to friends from Portland where Mr. Wade is undergoing treatment for his eye that it is still uncertain as to whether his sight can bo saved. Tho piece of steel was re moved from the eyeball, but it will be a fow days before the phy sicians can determine whether tho sight of the optic can bo saved. MISS B. JOHNSON of Oakland, Cal., who has been visiting for the past two weeks at the home of her niece, Mrs. Rhea Tibbitts sailed today on the Breakwater for Port land where sho will visit Mrs. Hunter (nee Larson) for a few days. From Portland sho will go via Seattle to New York, whero sho will join a party of friends on a European tour. Considerable activity in business lines will mark the next few weeks on Coos Bay, tho opening of new stores and moving into now retail locations being a feature of it. Two factors in it will bo tho completion and occupancy of tho new Coos building and tho new building of the First Trust and Savings bank. It was announced today that Messrs. Lea and Fryo of Portland, had just closed a contract for one of the rooms in tho now Coos building and will shortly occupy it with a fine confectionery store. It will bo fine ly fitted and furnished. Another of the first floor rooms of tho Coos building was also leased to day by parties from Pendleton who will open a moving picture show In it within the next ten days. J. L. Bowman is now putting tho finishing touches to tho fixtures of tho new clothing and gents furnish ing store which will bo opened at tho cor. of 'A' and Broadway in tho now Coos building within a few days. Merchant Bros, aro arranging for their removal from their old quar ters at 'A' and Broadway to the hand some new quarters in tho new build ing of tho First Trust and Savings bank. The exact date of tho removal has not been fixed yet. Leases Room for Restaurant. C. P. Smith and Geo. V, Duttlo to day concluded negotiations for tho lease of the building on Front street, now occupied by the Titlo Guarantee and Trust Company and Henry Seng- stackon's office. They will move tho Melrose restaurant, now located on Front street opposite the city hall, Into tho new quarters. Messrs. Smith & Duttlo also own and operate Smith's Cafe and recently opened a cafe in North Bend. They have made a great success of tho business here and tho now location for tho Molroso will enable them to still further im prove their business. Tenants for New Building. All of tho rooms in tho now build ing of tho First Trust and Savings bank, except eight, have been leased and will shortly bo ready for occu pancy. Among those who will occu py ofllces on tho upper floors are: Blake, Clarko and Llljeqvlst, Dr. B. E. Schoonmaker, Coko and Goss, Turpln and Perham, Dr. E. Mingus, Prof. Boll, Reeder and Watkins, and M. A. Sweetman. DANCE SATURDAY EVENING.
