Nairn Smith In. The Nann Smith arrived in Coos Bay today from San Francisco and went to her dock at the C. A. Smith mill where she will load again for the south. Raises Much Celery. Henry Graves of Shinglehouse Slough, was in Marshfield this week on business and while here announced his Inten tion of engaging in the truck garden ing business on a heavy scale. He has about two acres of celery beds this season. Socialists Get Hall. It Is an nounced that the local branch of the Socialists will occupy the hall on the second floor of tho Nelson building on Front street, across from tho City Hall, the Finnish societies having given It up owing to their fine new temple on 'C street in West Marsh field being almost ready for occu pancy. Rncer is Improving. "Teddy," the promising galloper of John R. Herron's string, Is reported Improv ing and may soon be able to bo put into training. The horse suddenly went lame last season and while everything possible was dono for him, he did not appear to improve until a few weeks ago. News of Shipping. Tho Alliance will sail from Portland at S o'clock Saturday evening, reaching Coos Bay early Monday. The Plant sailed from San Francisco Thursday after noon and will reach hero early Sat urday. The launch Enterprise Is be ing delayed here again for repairs to her engines. Eagles Memorial Day. Tho local lodge of Eagles will hold their an nual memorial exercises Sunday. Tho members will meet at their hall at 9 o'clock Sunday morning and march In a body to tho cemetery where they will decorate tho graves of their do parted brothers. The complete pro gram will be announced tomorrow. Lawyers Homo Today. A major ity of tho Coos Bay lawyers returned last night from Coqullle where they have been In attendance at court. Owing to the Olln trial being on, It was decided that thoro would be no opportunity for a day or two to take up any other business. Court will last at least another week. Will nelp University. Judge Potter of Eugene, who has been working In this section in behalf of the appropriation for Oregon State University last night, addressed a meeting of Coqullle business men. Resolutions indorsing the appropria tion were adopted. Tho Crystal. The film "In an Arm Chair" at the Crystal last night proved to be a genuine laugh prod ucer. This film shows the amusing Incidents and mishaps of a camping party, ono of tho scenes showing tho original bear-bug. HENRY SUDERMAN of Bear Creek, while visiting In Marshfield an nounced that ho has given up tho logging business permanently and will devote his entire tlmo to farming henceforth. BROWNE leaves tomorrow for Gardiner where ho will occupy the pulpit In the Methodist Epis copal church Sunday, In placo of the Presiding Elder. Captain Schmehl of North Bend, will oc cupy the pulpit In the Marshfield Methodist Episcopal church Sun day morning and evening. The Rev. D. W. THURSTON of tho Baptist church, will leave on tho next Plant for San Francisco, to attend the annual session of tho Pacific Coast Baptist Conference which will open at Oakland, May 11th, and last about a week. Somo of the most prominent members of the Baptist church in America will be in attendance to address tho conference which includes that section of tho United States, be tween Denver and tho Pacific. Alva Doll was elected as tho other delegate from Coos Bay and will probably leave In a week. Tho object of tho conference Is to se cure a greater unity in church work, tho motto being, "Get To gether."
