As a reader and admirer of the Coos Bay Times and its young, ener getic editor and staff, I wish to ex- press my appreciation of tho very able and timely editorial in Tuesday .mornlng'b edition, namely, "Hay wood's Acquittal " The subject is of I mote than local Interest, being per haps one of the most important sub jects that now confronts tho lndus- inai, as well as the financial, Inter ests of tho United States; for no doubt the conviction of Haywood would have placed organized labor hostile to capital all over this coun try and would have caused untold haidships and harm in every direc tion; made tho innocent to suffer and give to the guilty a cloak to shield behind. Believing as all good Americans do that a man Is Inno cent until proven guilty, I heartily endorse the words, that, "Now Hay wood has proven his Innocence, no paper or magazine should, be allowed to publish anything, no matter from what source, derogatory to his to his character, relative to this trial, either past or present." Notwithstanding that tho head of this, the most free and glorious coun try has put the stamp of his dis approval upon him as an undesirable citizen, twelve of his peers have de cided him Innocent ot the crime of which ho was charged. It Is only humane and chrlstian-liko to accept tho verdict as Justice done him. It is only Justice and humane to accept him back Into citlzensshlp of these United States without a mar or blemish on his character as far as this particular crime Is concerned. Therefore It would only be doing not only Haywood justice but the great cause for which he has been such a strong exponent, 1. e., organized labor, that btrong measures should be used to not only curb what may be said but to try and modify what has already been said and done. Until capital and labor become more friendly toward each other or a more perfect understanding Is reached, we will have and will need just such men as William HaywocJ. And to try and disorganize- tho united labor of tho United States would not only be next to Impossible but would only be tho means of put ting this country more in the power and control of the money interests than anything else that could pos sibly happen. Let us hope that the verdict was just. Let us all try and give such aid and support to our fcllowmcn that wo may never have cause to countenance or witness an other such conflict on this continent.
