B r A ke J ail .—Sunday night LUt,
John Russell who has been coufijied
in the county jail since liis time was
¿ut at the Penitentiary, succeeded in
wrenching one of the cross-bars to
his bed frame off and with this man
aged to break the lock to the feed
door through which lie crawled out
and made his escape, taking with liim
all of his clothing. He- was indicted
in 1872 by the Grand Jury’ for horse
stealing and arson 'for the first of
fence he served one year in the Pen
itentiary.
A M istake .—It is with pleasure
we announce the mistake concerning
the death of Jipimy Morgan by sui
ciding. Since'our last issue we*have
•cen him and did not notice any par
ticular change in him. At first sight
we thought it might perhaps be his
ghiost, but he soon put. that idea to
flight when we askc*d him if such was
the case, by remarking-. “FaithXand
is’s a Wealthy ghost I be.”
B jtseball . -The buseballists of this
place received a challenge from the
Club at North Fork and on Saturday
Qast »¿bartered a wagon and team and
went up ami played. It is but just
to say that theVe is no rdguarly or
ganized club at this place, however,
the game resulted in favor’of the
players from Lafayette by a score of
over three to one.
