They nro keeping bed room windows closed during the night hours to promote wnnntli. the burning of keroseno lamps turned low during the same) iiours and the baukiug up of tho houso vtt ill smelling manure from the barnyard. Any ono of the three practices is bad enough, but when all three are combined it makes a pretty stiff combination. The fellows on the usually low and wet land who In wet years past havo dono n heavy business in mosquitoes, bullfrogs and pitchfork burrs, have been in clover during the past two seilsons nnd have already harvested bumper crops of small grain and will soon gather big yields of corn. The owners of this low land-almost in variably rich and fertile should more fully appreciate that the tilling of this land will in the main have the same result in making it productive that these two dry seasons have done, and thnt the sooner they get It tilled the sooner will they cease to be the help less victims of wet seasons nnd be nble to raise bumper crops ou it every year. The commission men are at their same stale old tricks this year-uame-ly, reporting an oversupply of fall and winter apples and thus "bearing" the market They will likely continue on In this line until tho fruit is pretty much out of the growers hnnds. when prices will Jump as if they had been given an electric shock. There Is lit tle question that in the case of late summer and early fall npples there was an oversupply in some sections, bat that there i3 more than hnlf a crop of standard late fall and winter ap ples is not borne out by either the gov ernment crop reports or those from oth er reliable sources. Hence if one hns a good quality of fruit which has been sprayed and Is free from worms it will le well worth his while to box or bar rel it carefully, and if a fair price is not offered by buyers at ouce to put the fruit In cold storage. Producers of fruits have been lllmflammed by commission men long enough, and It is high time the former took the neces sary measures to safeguard them selves. The plan suggested above and intelligent co-operative effort are two means by which tills end may be accomplished. When your feet are wet and cold, and your body chilled through and through from exrosure, take a big dose of Cham berlain's Cough Remedy, bathe your feet in hot water before going to bed, and you are almost certain to ward off a severe cold. Advice, on Qrowlng Voflotnblo 8o Do scribed by tho Lato Mark Twain. Cauliflower requires a rich, moist soil and thrives best under Irrigation. The tender heads of cauliflower nro boiled and served with butter or cream ed and are also used for pickling. Cauliflower seed, formerly produced almost entirely in Europe, Is now grown In commercial quantities in the vicinity of I'uget sound, Washington, and a few other localities In the Unit ed States. There arc several varieties of cauliflower, but without marked differences among them. Some grow ers consider Early Dwarf Erfurt and Snowball, two of the best. A late ma turing nnd hardy form of cauliflower Is known ns broccoli. Lovers of cauliflower are fond of re calling Mark Twain's dollnltlon of tho vegetable as "cabbage with u collegu education." f WHAT TAFT THINKS OF X FARMING. X President Tnft In n southern speech said, "If 1 wero advising X a young man as to his future 4 profession I should nay to him that there was probably greater X opportunity for real reward in assiduity, industry, attention to business and scientific investiga tion In the profession of agrlcul- f ture thnn in any other profes- T slou this country nffords." j; Law Points For the Farmer. The laws of most of the states say that farmers shall cut the weeds that grow on the public hlghwny alongside the farm, or tho township may do It at the land owner's expense. Statutes which allow the owner of land sold for taxes to redeem on pro scribed conditions are liberally con strued In favor of the right to redeem. -Gibson Versus Deknrek, S. Dak. 131 N. W., 728. Adams Express Compa ny Versus Iteyers, Ind. 1)5 N. 13., 513. A person approaching a railroad crossing has a right to expect that the railroad company will give the statu tory crossing signal, but tho failure of the company In this respect will not absolve such person from the exercise of care commensurate with the danger of which he Is bound to take notice by reason of the fact that It Is n railroad crossing. Take a piece of heavy wire about three-si-'.ecntlifj of an inch in diameter and about seven feet long. Double nnd twist tho wire from the middle to within nine or ten inches of the end, then spread nnd bend like A In the picture. Take a half gallon sirup pall, punch holes in tho center of tho ends to re ceive the wire and perforate the pall with small holes. Ilend the ends of the wire so that they are long enough and must be sprung a llttlo to be put on. Spring your handle on, nnd your popper is complete.
