On Chrismas day the members
of the M. E. church raided the
parsonage with a lot of good
things of considerable bulk and
value with hearty greetings and
good cheer. Our thanks and

The Christmas dance at San-j
ford's hall last Monday night, '
given by the Dramatic Club, was
one of the successes of the sea
son, more than 40 couples being
present besides a number of
spectators. Next Monday night
the club will give their first an
nual New Year's ball and a large
crowd is expected.
L. F. Rice, formerly bookkeep
er at the Central Oregon store,
arrived in Madras Saturday on
his return from a trip to Coos
county, Oregon. Mr. Rice ex
pects to return to Marshfield the
middle of January to take a posi-'
tion offered him on this trip. He
left Sunday for his home in the
Lower Bridge country.
A crew of men is now at work
concreting tunnels 6 and 7 on
the Oregon Trunk road nearj
Madras. There is about 1000 feet ,
of concreting to be done at each
tunnel and will require five or
six months to complete the job.
W. I. Barnard, in charge of the
crew, will make his home here I
while the work is going on. The'
concrete work started several
weeks ago at tunnel No. 1 and in !
order to rush the job as much as !
possible, Henry & McFee, the!
contractors, have scattered their
gangs at different points along
the line.
