Kobcrt Hea, who -has charge of ihe Central Oregon survey between this place and Uond, was In town last Friday. The surveying party has been cainp'd at the Geore Osboru rancli lor several weeks, but has now moved camp out on the des ert. The survey crossed Crooked river abotit a mile below Trail Crossing. James' Kinncrslcy, who, was with the Oregon Trunk Line surveyors when they first camped at Madras, was operated on for appendicitis at The Dalles last week. He became ill the day after he reached Madras and only went out one day with the surveying patty, severe pains in nisi right side giving him much trouble, lie left the next day lor The Uallcs, where an examination was made and it wn found that an operation was necessary. Louts II. ArenSmeier and Miss jewe Hartley, both of this place, are teaching hi the I'rlncvillc public school, (lie.loiuirr in the 6th grade and the latter in the 5th. I'rof. l C. Naturalized citizens can vnt,e after one year from the date of declaration. C E. Roush, of the Madras Trading Co., left Tueiday for Portland, where be will spend a week or 10 days, Mrs. J. K. Craig, who suffered a slight stroke of paralysis last Thursday morn ing, is reported to be improving, and her many friends hope for her speedy recov ery, Mr. Craig hn. also been quite ill since his return from conference, suffering with nn attack of asthma. He is also improving, however, and if he and Mrs. Craig are able to travel, he expects to move with his family to White Salmon some time next week.
