Akcysoit attend' nd the dance in Madras last Saturday evening. Mr. Akcyson, wh6 has n posi tioii in Portland, is at lioino visiting his family for a few days. S. I). PtrclVal and fnlniiy spent the Fourth picnicing on Crooked River at the Cove. They camped over night, return ing next day. '2ll,,c n number of people from this locality spent the Fourth ai the Cove. The weather has been extremely hot during the past week, the thermometer registering between 95 and loo degreBs for three or four days. Last Tuesday was the warmest day, when the mercury got tip to 98 degrees ih the shade, Manager Uoss arid F. M. hoveland are in town to attend a meeting of the Madras Dil & Oas Company. The well which the company Is sinking is down about i$o feel, but drilling has beeri sus pended for a few (lays to await the rlrrival ol casing. Cbfifle vVrltcrfiotiBe has leased from J. Mr. Way mire and family will probably go to Pullman, Washington, for a visit with relative! - Julius A. Lorscri is reported Very ill on Agency plains with typhoid fever, He is being taken tare of by some of his neigh bors at the house on the Isaac Scrier ranch, and t)r. Long Is attending him. While his condition has been ijuiic serious for several days, Dr. Long says that the typhoid is ih a (mid form, and thai he is netting along as well as could be hoped for. Mrs. John Hoffman has advertised an auction sale of farming implements nnd household goods at her home Wednesday July 15. There will also be some live stock and chickens disposed of nt ihe sale. Col, W. H. Reynolds will auction the goods off. Mrs. ltoifman is dispos ing of her household effects ahd other personal property preparatory la going to Spokane to join h'er h'usbaitd. J. W. Ross, manager for the Madras Oil St Gas Co., was in lown the 1.1st of the week from Lamonta, where the com pany is (prospecting for oil. Mr. Uoss nays Work is progressing smoothly, though slowly, the size of ihe hole they are drill ing making the work necessarily slow. It was their intention to drill a 13 inch hole, but owing to the character of the formation lite Hole has widened out and it is nearer io inches. The hole was down about 150 feet the iait of the week. George H. Oborn and Robert Osborn were in town from Culver last Tuesday. Charles Foote has accepted a position as salesman for J. C. & M. A. Robinson and went to work for them last Monday. There was a goodly number of re sponses to the invitation to the "church raising'1 Tuesday nnd yesterday and the frame work for the superstructure of the new Methodist church building was com plelcd. Tile work on the new building will be pushed to completion as rapidly Kk possible. A. D. Andcrsnri and ' Misses Susie An derson, Ellin Taylor, Mytthena Taylor and liva Loving drove over' to Foley spungs in the Ultie mountains last Friday and spent two days there picnicking, rc turning home Sunday evening, They were joined nt the springs by a small party of friends from Ashwood.
