hither(,o done very Ijttltjr for ihej
interior of tho Btafy. and lite
people will welcome, a, compel! '
tor in pastern Oregon that will 1
deal fairly with the whole Btate,,
and tho Harriman system will I
not do this. t is believed the
Great Southern is independent '
or tho dominating influence of
this great railroad king, and it
has been surmised, that it is un
der tho control o 'j. Jj. Hill,
who has proved himself tho
most public spiritod railroad
builder in the tjorttywest. It
has bwn by his liberal poJicv
that the state of Washington !
has outstripped Oregon in the i
race after commercial sinn-em-!
aoy during the last few years. I
Mr. Hill has developed the inte
rior of Washington, and' the :
growth of that state has been,'
phenomenal. If ho con trols the
Great Southern the people
should rejoice, for, it will mean
development for the interior,
and Eastern Oregon receiving
as fair treatment as Western
Oregon. But the Great South
ern must get to the river, and to
this end The Dalles should give
(very possible aid.
