The northbound Southern Pacific pas
eenger train last Wednesday night had
a narrow escape from being wrecked at
a very rough aud dangerous point two
miles south of Grants Pass. Some mis
creant had placed a tie across the track,
but foituuately the pilot struck the im
pediment and kept it from passing un
der the wheels. Robbery ia supposed to
have been the motive.
A party of seven white ribboners vis

adopting a novvl method of raising funds
for the new K. O. T. M. Temple. They
propose to nave a "Uountry btore " as
one of the Carnival attractions. The
merchandise of the institution consists

the bearer to one ot the gifts which may

The submarine torpedo-boat Fulton,
