From what we can learn of young Alphonso be is not even an average boy of his age. We have no doubt that there are 10,000 boys in the state of Oregon alone who are 10 years of age and better fitted to manage a kingdom than Alphonso. Bnt just think of the responsibility of having a boy of 16 raised to the position of president of the United States. Tick out Ihe smartest l')-year-old boy of all yonr acquaintances and then imagine him put at the head of this nation. It is no particular wonder that the monarchies of the old world are sink ing into a state of decay. The sover eigns have married and intermarried until there isn't a sound one both mental! jand physically in the whole bunch. Part of them are serofalous and part tf theiu serai-idiotic and part of them insane. Bat the de cendents of these royal families are what the people of most of Eorope have to take for their rulers. The wonder is that they will stand such business as patiently as they do. It is marvelous that they do not rise cp in general revolution and whoop the royal families out of the country. That is what will happen if the degeneration continues. In the meantime you ought to thank God that yon are a citizen of this bully republic.
