NEW MAINE IS A FLYER.
Philadelphia, July 18. The new battleship MaiiiCj
built by the Cramps to replace the ill-fated Maine, return
ed to this city after a satisfactory builder's trial at sea.
The new war vessel proved herself to be a very speedy ship
for her size, she averaging 18.29 knots an hour over a
measured course. Her contract called for a speed of 18
knots. In a preliminary run last night the Maine, for 30
minutes, ran at the rate of 19.95 knots an hour, an extraor
dinary speed for a vessel of her displacement.
