These loose-jointed estimates are more lavish than Congress will be. King Edward is progressing so well toward recovery that it has been decided to have the coionation cere monies take place in August instead of September. But can the crowd who want to sea the great spectacle be held even till Augnst? Even if not, other crowds will in large part take their places. A QUEER MAN Dead Now, but When Alive His Be. havior Was Strangest of the Strange. A curious character has just died at Union, Oregon. He owned a tailroad, but never accepted a pass on it, it ie eaid, had never ridden on it, preferring a caynse to his steam horse. He also i tos ses sed a fine residence, which his family occupied, but the greater portion of his time was spent in a cabin near Drewsey. He ha three large general stores in Eastern Oregon, filled with clothing, yet he only wre overhalls, a cheap cotton shirt, a pair of cowhide lxots and an old wool hat. He owned a $10,000 flouring mill at Drewsey, but he had never leen inside of it, though he jiassed it almost daily. With every reasonable luxury on earth at his command, a splendid home, and a devoted wife always pleading fur him to come and remain at home, h preferred a rude cabin in the alkali desert, a.lioard ld, and bacon and beans. . and the companionship of cowljoys and sheepherders. The mem ber.; of the fire department, with which he has i,eeu identified as chief since its organization, presented him with handsome thomsonite charm as a fitting companion to the watch.
