Weather. Cooler weather, with few showers, prevailed during the week. The mean temperature for the week aTeraged 05, which is 5 lower than for the preceding week and 15 lower than for the corresponding week of last year. The rain varied greatly in amount; in the northern and in the coast counties from' 0.10 to 0.15 of an inch fell, and in the southern counties from a trace to 0.12 of an inch. Tbunderetjas prevailed in many localities Thursday evening and night. The weather wis unusually cloudy Friday, SaUrday aud Sunday: on the other days of the week, normal sun shine prevailed. Crops. Harvesting uud threshing con tinue. The bulk of the fall and winter sown grain is now out of the way, aud work on spring-sown is beiug rapidly completed. Keporls coutinue that "the grain is not turning out as exccted," and "the grain crop is not as good as it was last year." These reports are juite geueral. The expected crop was very large, and this was due to the very favor able weather from tho latter part of May to the middle of July; the weather iLcii became dry aud warm rather suddenly, - w hich checked the filling of the beads ; iu addition, the wheat aphis developed with great rapidity, and their raages materially affected the spring grain by not permitting it to till properly. Tbcuo re the causes which prevent the crop from blnjj a large s m expected or as large as in 18'J7. Tho wheat, oats, and other grain crops are good, but not as good as the producers bad reaeon to eipect. The current weather is fuvorable for the development aud increase of tho hop louse. Hops are making good growth and picking will begin at any lime uft;r the 2'Jth lust. The yards are, as a rule in good condition, aud the quality of the bop is superior to thoee of tho pant few years. At the present tiiue, there are fewer hop lice than is usuvl. Uartlett peari are bciug packed aud shipped i the crop is au unusually goo d one. l runes are coiomuk and drying will commence m many orchards within ten days. Tho fruit prospects coutinuo tuoat excellent. I'eaches are a good crop except in the Willamette Valley counties and they aro being shipped iu Uro iiuantitie. Iu apple orchard! whero proper care was not givou tho trees, the Codliu moth is very plentiful. Tho apple crop very larsc, but infected with the Codliu moth. The pruuo crop is the largest ever had iu tho rilatc. ' Warm, dry weather is necessary to cave the pruus crop. Pasturage is fairly good and stock presents au excellent appear ance. There have been fewer forest Urea this year thau usual, and the result is the air is but little impregnated with tuoke. Bargains! Bargains!! Bargains!!!
