To the voters and taxpayers of Dong las county, Sire: As we are nominated for legislative honors by the people's party, it is a.pleasure as well as a doty to let the voters know how we etand rela tive to the issues directly effecting your interest. If elected wo pledge ourselves to work for the following measures : 1. Free coinace of silver at the ratio of 16 to 1, the constitutional money and the money of our fathers. 2. We will support only a silver can didate for U. S. Senator. 3. We will work for the re-enactment f the mortgage tax law under exemption from tax of honest indebtedness where a corresponding credit is shown. -J. United States senators by direct vote of people. 5. Initiative and referendum, making the ieople independent matters of the legislature and the legislature a depend ent Eervant of the people. C Abolishment of Oregon National Guard costing foO.OOO, and railroad com mission 25,000 to the taxpayers yearly Several other commissions should be abolished. We think that oar friend: will agree with n when we say that the employing one hundred and eighty clerks to do the work of thirty is an outrage on the people and a disgrace to the state of Oregon. This outrageous extravagance must be paid with 40-cent wheat, G-cent wool and 3 cent prunes. 7. We recognize the great combina tions of capital that are here ; they are a normal form of boiinesa enterprise of the day. They have great advantages that can effect great benefits for society. "So ciety, therefore, osght not to destroy them. Bat as they have also great power for evil that threatens society, we should be wise enough and manly enough to control them. Tnerelore, since oar railroad corporations own one-sixth of the entire property of the country, it is suggestive that we act quickly along the line of reform. Respectfully, C. S. Jactsox, J. F.
