Jealousy and Dissension. New York, Nov. 22. A special to the Herald, from Santiago do Cuba, says: Rumors have been current in this city for month regarding jealousy and fric tion in the ranks of tho insurgents, the lacks being intensely jealous of the whites. Much of this has ape-rcd in rint, the whites openly stating that where they .were in Um minority they were ignored and badly treated ; tdat the elder 3Iaceo was very suspicious and that he had surrounded himielf with a chosen band of blacks. Maceo is the chief of the Antillian league, an order of blackp, part secret and part open, which pieugeu to black domination m ue West Indies. About 70 men form bis bodyguard. Owing to the friction and jealousy many whites nave leu tue reoe: rants and have surrendered to Campos, who has pardoned and released them. The 1-te Jose Marti was tho acknowl edged leaderf the white section of the rebels. He was the chief orpauizer of the present movement. His death, it waseaid. was duo to a reckless charge made on a body of Spanish troops. It now eeems that Marti was not shot by the Spaniards, by come of (General Maceo'a bodyguard, and that their action was in keeping with their duel's ex pressed wishes. This information cornea directly irotn Hie msurgont ran-s to a gentleman in this city. At first it was kept quiet, but now is an open secret. from her continental policy in Asia and acknowledges the unconditional right of Russia to hold Corca and Manchuria within her sphcro of political and eco nomical influence. A special sign of the liberal intentions of the Corean government is the iwriuia- sion which has been accorded its sub jects to cut off their pigtails. The rebel Corean troops are being formed in two divisions on the European model to replace the palace guards. Reports received here are that the Chinese army, sent to subdue the rebels 1 in the western part of the Chinese em pire, lias been utterly defeated and sev-! eral of the officers have been killed. ! The rebels are now masters of portions ; of several provinces. A Diver's Grim Story. J.OXDOX, ov. 'SS. a grim story is published today, taken from a private letter from Constantinople, according to which a diver, while recently engaged in assisting in the work of driving piles for a new pier at the Golden Horn, on reaching the sea bottom was surprised to find himself surrounded by the bodies of a number of men, apparently stand ing upright around turn, upon investi gation, the diver discovered they were thclcorpse of students, many of whom were known to him personally, who were recently arrested by the Turkish police and afterward taken out in boats Hopeless and Desperate. Chicago, Nov. 23. The Armenians of the city and vicinity, according to one of number, arc "hopeless and desper ate," and are actively promoting a movement which is taid to be spreading over tho country, to enlist men to go to Turkey to prevent the extermination of their relatives and friends. This gen tleman, who is believed to be reliable and well informed, said nearly 1000 men have already been enlisted in Massachu setts and other New England states. A meeting is to be held in this city tomor row night to make an appeal to England to stop the massacres, and if it is inef fectual, enlisting will commence in earn est. The gentleman said that the Ax- meninas will not submit to seeing their fathers, mothers and relatives extermi nated. They arc said to be preparing to buy arms to go to Turkey to fight. Asked as to how they would get there, he asked hoif the Cub-.'jis got to Cuba. floney to Loan In sums of J1000 to o000 on well im proved farms. D. S. K. Bcick. Gilvin'e soap at Gillett'a.
