Judge Sweet, being asked to sign the constitu tion said be waa In favor of Woman Buflrage, but would wait till the majority of women demanded " the ballot before he would become an active advo- Mrs. Dunlway replied that she waa glad to bear the gentleman's explanation. It gave her an op portunity to chide women for 'their apparent In difference. Tbe one difficulty -with women, waa their timidity, which men mlstoxik for 'apathy. Men had not waited for the majority of negroes to demand the ballot before they bestowed it upon them ; nor did they wait when a boy baby was bora to get the majority of men to say whether or not he should grow up a voter. But this was tbelr last excuse against granting woraan'tbe bal lot, and women should combine to prove this ex cuse untenable. If but one woman in 'Whitman county should desire the ballot, It waa manifest tyranny te deprive her of lt-yKf .7 MrsvJ)avls said that she had been in favor of Woman Buffrage, but the recent decision of a Jury In a murder case had convinced ber that women bad more rights now than-they ought tobaye. " Airs. u. replied at some length, convincing the lady that women as' Jurors would be compelled to follow evidence In their decisions, the same as men doTIf women are more tyrannical than men, It Is because of their subjugated condition. ' 'The common twaddle of men Is that woman's sole destiny Is to become , the mother of children and the mistress of a household. Now, If those who maintain that this is the most magnificent mtsslon of woman would only leave the bouaehold scepter In the hand of their wives, Instead of usurping it themselves and becoming tbe real destroyer-of their own happlneasby.. their dicta tions, the sins' of women would not be so promi nent as now erroneously assumed, The old Idea that man is the head of the family Is an exploded humbug, a monstrous falsehood. Woman Is tbe head of (be. family, and not mau. A husband is merely tbe stepson of his wife.- Man,-j Instead of being the bead of the family, is only the tall a kind of ornamental appendage. From woman, all the natlous of the earth derive their field? I answer, Give her a political status equal with man, enfranchise her," and' she will soon In augurate such reforms in this world that very soon there will be no battles to fight. She will bring about that long-prayed-for time when our swords shall be beaten Into sbeep-sbears ! But suppose that wars actually should come we will And that womeu, If needed, can do their part, as they have often done In this world's great battles. How about Joan of Arc? Was not she something of a success In the way of commanding an army ? , Women, once they are enfranchised, will bring us all tbe reforms so greatly needed. When their voice Is heeded, disease, and crime will take their departure. . , , Theficri ptureal inform ua. that- the wages of sin Is death ; and unless .we reform, and that quickly, we will be made to feel the trtith of this declaration, both as a nation and as Individ uals. If the voices of our most eminent women were heeded.Jlhe vigor of 'our race would not be Impaired, through sexual Intemperance. Both classes of .men, the single as well as those legally clothed with unlimited license, seem to be In a rage to ruin their physical structure, and so com mit' suicide by degrees."If -mencanriotgive women any-other rights, their nature should at least be as much heeded by them as the female nature Is among the animal kingdom outside of Jaumanjjiiiuj&ce 12Q LEWIS &STRAUSS, Otroot, TH E K EYSTO N E RESTAURANT.
