It is officially announced that there is now not a single case of small pox in i-oruaim. Vivian still draws good houses at Oro Fino Theater. His engagement expires wan this week' P. E. Mav. ex-Seeretnry of State, who has Northwest will be furnished to sub scribers for S4 50 per year. There have been in attendance at the Portland Academy during the past year 141 pupils 71 males and 70 females- classified as follows: Music department, seniors, 8: juniors, 8, sub juniors, 31; preparatory, 4C; primary 24. Since the year 1SG0 there lias ucen aa persons IS females and 21 males who have raduatcd from this institution. E. May on the second of the eight indictments, he having been acquitted on the first one. Orpheus, a musical publication is sued simultaneously at different points in the Eastern States and at San Fran cisco and Portland, has been laid on our table. Gray's music store in San Fran ciscoand Portland aro theones interested in the publication on this coast. Sheet music accompanies every number. It is a good, reliable musical monthly. Terms, one dollar per year. The Statesman says: The companies having in charge the work of prospect ing the Lookout Mountain mines, sit uated on tlie Santiam river, report ex cellent success. The engravings and fashion plates are, as usual, elaborate and artistic The literary contents are even more inter csting than usual. The fact is, Go (ley's Magazine is one of the be: monthly publications in the United States. Godew's Magazine and the kw OKTHWHSTwill be furnished in a club for five dollarsjier annum. The Bedrock Democrat gives an ac count of the finding, near Malheur City of some fossil remains of an animal which indicate it to have been of enor mous proportions. The tusks were four feet in diameter at the base, and were fifteen feet in length. Tho portions of the head found show that the animal was two feet wide between the eyes. The bones found have been sent to Itev, Thomas Condon, the Oregon geologist. The members of the Horticultural Fair held a meeting last week, at which it was resolved to publish the financial results of the late Fair in a short time. The matter of premiums was laid over to a future meeting. Among other things It was resolved to become an in corporated body at the next session of the Legislature. After the transaction of some more business the Society ad journed to meet at the State Agricul tural Fair.
