Aug. 13.—The fishing tug Silver Spray was fired upon by the Canadian revenue cutter Petrel today while engaged in fishing on the lake. Those aboard narrowly escap- ed. Four holes in the boat were made by one-pound shots and the smokestack was carried away by the Petrel’s fire. Captain Shaw is lay ing the matter before the customs house authorities. The affair is considered to be a very remarkable ore from any stand point. and so causeless as to provoke every imaginable theory of explana tion.
