The 3foa&Uincer says a gentleman in TirsBt coanry lately paid up a delinquent subscription of 24. It takes capital to tun a newspaper on that principle. C Morse d accused of the mcder of Thos. D. Hereafter a steamer will be dispatched from San Francisco for Portland every tire cays instead of every week as formerly This will necessitate constant employment cf three vessels, the "Geo. W. The magnitude of the Improvements now being make in portions orUmatllla county is almost beyond kM and particularly is it so In the eastern irtioa thereof. In this article we can only refer to the enter prise, tact and use or capital by Dr. Bla lock. The Doctor has purchased a large body or laud in the vicinity of Milton, and is now in the midst or gigantic improve- meats; a saw-mlll in the mountains is now cutting lumber with which he propose! to construct ail tune about 12 miles in length, which will deliver fencing and other lumber adjacent to his immense field or 2,000 acres. He now has eight gang plows at work on this tract, and will thoroughly prepare 1,000 acres or it Tor planting this Fall with wheat; from which he will real izc from 50,000 to 25,000 bushel. He will require lumber for 10 miles of fencing to inclose his field; and will have a sufficient number or artesian wells bored to Irrigate the entire field If necessary; although here torore the same character oflaads have pro duced from SO to SO bushels of w heat to the acre without irrigation, when sown as they should be, in the Fall. In connection with this subject it might be well to remark that no doubt exists as to the entire success or Dr. Blalock's at tempt to secure flowing wells of water; and all hope to hear soon of his striking a never failing supply. If artesian wells prove a success in this county It will with out exaggeration be the finest agricultural county in the Slate. There is several town-, thljw of rich arable land to the north of Pendleton, ami the only thing that prevents their being k tiled tapen l the scarcity of water. AnsmeooBldbe built down the Umatilla river to oat fencing eta to points along the river of easy access to the lands in question. Wc think It woahl be a safe investment for some man of capital tn ing artesian weM-boring machinery on those lands. There Is no doubt in our minds but that there is vast reservoirs or water lying jwhaps net more than ISO feet below the surface awaiting the enterprise of man to relieve it from its prison, and start it on its upward bound mission to obey one of the laws of nature, that water will find its own leveL The enterprise or Dr. Blalock will undoubtedly trove r vast benefit ta our county, cot only in dollars and cents, but la reclaiming as it were thousands of acres or seessin gly desert land spnn which the weary emigrant can settle In the full knowledge that time only will be repaired when he can sit under his "awn vine and fig tree and enjoy the fruits ef his Industry. In this corporation or company there is property enough. If the rater'"5 proves successful, to warrant the belief that the comnanv will in time roitresent as much hard cash as the great bonanza kings of Nevada. In addition to the Intrinsic merits of this mine, it commtnd itself to Uic citizens or Oregon as a home enterprise, thus far de veloped by Oregon capital, and the great wealth which In all probability It will yield the people of this State will receive.
