( 'T .' OREGON ftf tljl JACKallAVILLKi Eaiitrdat, Kovrwmi 13, IFfC The' Late Election- Tlio late election in the rations Etatcs lias developed in ni:mr in stances remark.", ble change in both parties. In pectinns of the country heretofore largely Repub lican, the Democrats made their largest urines. The same is also the- case with the Democracy. In all the border Btate3 the Re publicans have made heavy gaiii3 and especially is this the case in old Virginia. In this etato the Republicans have gained six members itt the lower houso of Congress. Old Virginia has made a gallant cflort to throw off tho fosstlated Bourbon )emoc nicy, and make a bold step for ward injhe progress of the day. As for thet-iuli StateVTliCyTc-' main where the wr left them, they are members ot the solid south. No attention whnlerer wus given to the elections in those" stales. No democratic paper Iioists his eagle over the Demo cratic Victor'. The results weie as well known the day before as the day after election. There is xbut jono party recognized in those Btatcs, and wbon the people vote it is well understood that but one result must take pir.ee. In many portions of the south the Republican party has ubuiid. ned their organization in districts that formolyjavc large Republi can majorities. At that time the government had soldieis at the polls to see that eacVand cvory elector should be allowed to vote, one toldicr to one thousand voters being sufficient to secure to all tho rights ol voting. During Presi dent Hayes administration the soldiers were removed, and horn that day no Republican party could ictain its organization. Can this extreme sectional feeling on the part of tho.c states against tho north, result other than a disadvantage to themselves! No northern mau with capital can feel 6afe in investing his means jn a country so sectional and into!. oratit. Honest ndniiiiiMratiuii of the state icquiics two competing parties the one to check the other nnd to expose at all times fraud aud corruption when found. The present administration owes its election to the repeated charges on tho part of the Democratic speakers and papers .that abrup tion was at all times to be found in tho departments of the govern' ment. The people concluded to make a change, and did so. They liavo however been unablo to do velopo the fraud charged never theless they are in. Our demo cratic papers has repeatedly prop liesicd that the rcpubliican part' would toon surrender its organiza' tion as a party. We will say to all who may believe tnat such will bo the retult, that thcie publican pari' will remain a1? long as 3-011 have the solid south' Voorhccs' election to congress from Washington territory is a suprise to many. Tho O. R. k N. Co. is credited with having aided in his election; probably am tagouism to the U". P. R. R. had in some cases considerable to do with it. 1 he King county vote is eloquent. Democrats taj that Voorhees election will improve tho territory's prospects of state hood. The presumption is doubt ful. Territories that don't select better timber than lie for a log's' lator are usually allowed to wait. Election Results- Twenty-four stales electee governors this year. Rhode Isl and, a Republican, Wetmore, last April, Oregon L'cnnoyer, Demo cratic, in Juno; Alabama, Sea; Democratic, in August; Arkansas Hughes, Democrat, Vermont, Ormsbee, Republican, Maine, Bodwcll, Republican, in Septem ber: aud Georgia, Gordon. Demo crat in October. LastTuesday the remaining seventeen of tho twenty four elected govenors. Colorado elected Meyers, Republioau; in Connecticut, Louusberry was beaten by Cleveland but the Ut ter not having a majority jonty of all .J "I , 1011 devolves votes cast the election nnrtn n. 'Rfinnhlienii IfiffiKmtnrA. which will of course, elect a Re publican governor. Kansas elects Martin Republican; M-issaehusett Ames, Republican; M.chigan, in doubt; Minnesota,- Ames, Demo crat, probably; Nebraska, Thayer Republican XewlLimpshires like Connecticut, will elect a Repubi lican by the Icgislatuie, Wiscon' sin, Rusk, Republican, California Bartlelt Democrat, Delew.ire, Briggs, Democrat, had noopjo?:. tion, jYevada, Stevenson, Rgpnbli can, New Jersey, Green, Demo crat, Pennsylvania, Beaver, Re publican, South Carolina, nooppm mtion to Riohaidaon, Democrat, Tennessee, Taylor, Democrat, iexas, vjoehran, democrat. Those Licrs- Our cotem has received some very severe raps over the kuuck-1 les for his insulting remarks in reference to the charges made against our presen county clerk burins the iast cams-aiiru in this county, uommuiitcniums to me Tidings at.d .Monitor, Mime printed question were put to the Timos editor tP our counly fin aiik.es,. and the exhibits given. by the clerk, that may make it very difficult for Iiim to ans'ver. We rt . . --'fc vcm1m donot believe he can answer them to the satisfaction of the people, thorcfoie it is more than likely he will not make tho attempt, si lence doubt less wi II lie the best policy in that cae. In ail proba 'j'l.ty he will cxerisemore caution in the future aud about dpening up so delicate a subject after it had uhnnsit been lorgi.lton by the mai jority of the people of the county Tho Republicans, for governor, have lost Oregon, and probably Michigan: they have gained Nevada and Pennsylvania. The Democratic majority in the house ot tepsentatives is reduced and the Rcnato Is secured to the Republicans. The icMtks do not carry out the recent boast of the Voice, tho organ of tho prohibit tion patty, that "The R publican party is dying." DuBois. tho Republican candi date for Delegate to Congress in Idaho, was elected by a strong majority over John Ilailey, foimei !y of tnis county. Ilailny courted the large Mormon rote, hut the auti Mormon sentiment was roused and gave him a scorching defeat. It begins to look like Blaine in 'S8. St. John will probably get 575 apiece for his 2s ew York peeches that year. MARRIED. LEDAKIN PROYOLT At tin rp.vdeiice of the bride's annt-, oil ApjilPate, Oct. 25ih, by Rev. A.
