She stared at him a moment.and gave a reluctant consent. 'Folks can't be too careful who they speak to or accept favors from,' she re marked after a Ion pause. That is very true,' replied the gen tleman, quietly. 'Are you a Boston drummer' she in quired. 'No, I am not,' haianswered, A hotel c.erfcfr 'No, not a hotel clerk.' I'm glad of that,' said she. 'I nev er let a drummer or a hotel clerk speak to me. Maybe you're an actor. 'No, nor an actor.' 'That's first, class!' she exclaimed, showing her dimples and becoming more and more confidential. If an ac tor should epeak to me, I'd die. What is your businesst' 'I'm a bar-keeper, and I'm traveling west to get a territorial divorce front my wife,' explained the gentleman. A gentleman just returned from a hunting and prospecting trip down Reese River valley, relates the follw ing phenomenon which canio very dis agreeable under his personal observa tion, says the "Reveille:" He wkb down below the canyon, somo 40Tni'o3 in here, riding quitely along, when an immense cloudof grasshoppers dark- ASfinmn, tvh l.vi.w..;-.! In less than fifteen minutes they covered the ground for over a hundred acres to tho depth ef from six inches to three feet. His horse fell twico before he got beyond the confines of the storm. Passengers on the narrow gauge railroad describe that thousands of crowds of crows and buzzards aro gathered at the locality described, and the scent of tho putre fying hoppers are terrific. A French gentleman recently from Paris was invited by one of our popu lar citizens" to indulge in the "American custom" at tho exchange. The nexfmorn- ing he caitett aiono at me sar, anu being asked by the polite young man who concocts cocktails what he would have, and having forgotten the name of the drink of yesterday, he replied, "I will take von grand contradiction what you call it? wis very much lem on for make Iiim sour, very much soo gare for make him sweet, plenty of brandy for makehim strongand a great deal of wasser for make him weak."
