A visit will plaus yn. f. When men choose a wife they slouTd select a cheerful, happy-tempered 'wo man, no matter whether she ia hand some or not. They make a great mis take when they marry for beauty anil style, or for talents and accomplish ments, if there is not a cheerful heart to go with them, a bright, sunny soul. The sweetest, most lovable wives are those who possess the magic power of being bright and cheerful under almost anTrcBmgtiinceisi.proyide6thejrAv bands' treat! them "vith the courte.y1' and due forbearance which 'is their' right. Kich or poor, high or low, 'it makes no difference provided the bright little fountain of cheerfulness bubbles up like a continual spring In their hearts and scatters its drops everywhere. Was ever the stream of troublo and trial so dark and deep that the sunshine of a cheerful face falling across its tuibilness would fail to awaken an answering gleanii No, indeedl So cultivate a joyous, cheerful, happy disposition, friends, and see for yourselves how much good you can do in this life by its aid. No matter how cross and crabbed one may feel, no matter if the brain is filled with meditations upon the great afflictions of life, or that the stomach is drenched with pills and mixtures and tonics; just let one of these cheery wo men come across you, and, my word . for it, she will route you from j our fit of the, "blues." The long wrinkles about your mouth will shorten, tho black gloom of your brow will disap pear, and almost before you know it you are Jauhing heartily at some lit tie anecdote she is relating, and your desponding fit vanishes. Ah! what a blessing are these cheer ful women. How often do their little hands assuage the grief of the mourner, and th'eir bright, sunny smiles bring sunlight to the gloomy heart! No ono can estimate the good they do until tho judgement day will reveal tho secrets of many aching hearts and show us how mu:h we owe to these cheerful, ho)eful, helpful, happy souls. Their own lives may have been filled with grief, but the darkened cloud revealed to them its silvery lining. They may have felt the stings of stern penury, but with the little they possessed thoy have wasted not one jot. , . , ATTKK OF EOS13. ' In the war plains of Turkey, south of the Balkan mountains, whole dis tricts are covered with rose plnnts, set in lines about five feet apart and tend' ed for some years with tho greatest care. At length, in some sweet fresh morning in early summer, while the roses are yet wet with dew, the tender flowers are torn off by the laborers and cast at once by heaps into huge coppers, there to boil for hours in clean rain water. The fragrant steam is carried along a tube and, on cooling, becomes a kind of thick roso water. This is boiled up again and the vapor cooled into a liquid, on the top of which floats a yellowish, oily, scum, that is known as the "atter of roses " It takes about 4,000 pounds of roses to make a pound of the atter. Once a merchant opened a cupboard in his store and showed a visitor thirty" largo glass bottles in which, he said,' was $60,000 worth of tho precious es sence. This quantity must have taken four million pounds of roses in mak ing. But may be, after all, their fra grance in that form would give more and longer lasting pleasure than could have been given had the flowers been left upon their bushes', whfre they could only have cheered tho passers by.
