This question, which it has" been tho custom to treat from a mete' physical point of view, is to us purely anthropological, or rather zoological; for we propose to show by character istic examples borrowed from the whole animal kingdom that sexuality under goes the same evolution in all species, including the human species. The fe male surpasses the male in certain in ferior species. The males are smaller than the females among many cepha lopods, and among some cirripeds. With a few exceptions the superiority of the females prevails among tho annelids, and among certain articulates, as bees, hornets, wasps; and female butterflies are larger and heavier than males, a difference being observable among tho larvae. A like superiority of females may be observed in many fishes, as in the cyprinoids, and in rep tiles. This is, however, no longer the case among the superior vertebrates. The males of birds and mammals are nearly always superior to the females. To sum up, the two sexes, at first unequal in consequence of the super iority of the female over the maje characterizing tho lowest species, be come equal aain in consequence of the pre-eminence of the male over "the fe male, which is observed in all the higher species. The supremacy of the female is, then, the 6rst term of the evolution which sexuality undergoes, while tho supremacy of the male is the last tsrm. "PopularScience Monthly." Topping of Williams creek, Oregon, and a member of Williams crook lodge No. 286, I. 0. G.T. Brother Topping was a charter member and an exemp lary good Templar until death claimed him. Although he died away from his relatives he was deeply regarded and his funeral was warmly attended by his numerous ft iends. Jlnllgnnnt Anthrax, This disease, sometimes called "black "leg," having given some Iowa "stock raisers some trouble, the Chicago Inter-Ocean, having its attention called to it, advises all stock raisers to give their utmost attention to the best means of preventing the disease as tho only protection against the great losses which annually occur. It is a well known fact that tho young 2 and 3-year-old steers are most susceptible to tho disease, especially the plethoric subjects, particularly if this condition has been suddenly induced by feeding food rich in 'the elements of nutrition. Therefore restrictions in diet are 'some times absolutely necessary. It is con sidered good practice to give the young, full-fat subjects a cathartic, such as Epsom salts, from 12 oz. to 1 pound each" week, -with J" oz. powdered Ja maica ginger' dissolved in 1 pint of warm water. This treatment may be followed up with small doses of nitrate of potash about three times a week, and a seton may bo inserted in the ,j dewlap., Where animals have died of r' this' disease, disinfectants should be freely used at least once every day. Tho chlorido of lime 1 pound to the gallon of water is perhaps as good as anything that can be used. This should be freely sprinkled about the pens, sta bles, sheds and yards. The sick ani mals fchould be completly isolated, and when a death occurs, the. dead subject should be promptly removed, and liuried deep in the ground. "J.
