Danforth will locate in our town and begin the practice of his pro fession some time Uuririjtlie-:opirig week. We aro not advised as to the exact location of his office. En-Route. Ben Holladay and his Pnvato Secretary, Dr. R. IL Towler, passed through town yesterday on the stage, on their way to Washington and New York. This, we think, is his first trip through this part of the country. Mn. Vivian don't owe us a cent; he paid us, like a man. The money was subject to our order before last issue, but we were not aware of it. Hence our remarks. It was to his agent the blame belonged, and ho will do well to look to that individual, hereafter. CnniSTMAS Festival. Parents, and others interested in the Sunday School Christmas Festival, are requested to have all packages intended to be dis tributed from the Tree delivered at the M. E. Church before 10 o'clock Christ mas morning. Setator Corbctt has been appointed on tho following Senate Committees : Commerce, Indian Affairs, and Revolu tionary Claims. Two dollars will buy a chance to win tho finest'gnn in town, put up at a raffle in Pape's sa loon by Mr. John Miller, at $2 a throw. If you lose, tho loss is small; if you win, yon have $100 worth of property exempt from execution. Holidays will soon be here, and the little folks will all expect to receive a nice present of some sort. The easiest way to find what you want to buy, and tho best place to buy it, is to look over the advertisements in the Sentinel. Men who advertise liberally generally do everything else the same way. Holiday Sronxs. All you smart Alecks of keen sight and 3tcady nerve can have a chance to show your skill on both Christmas and New Year day. S. Plymale will put up a choice lot of poultry and other prizes to be shot for on those days, and everybody is inviU ed to take a chance. The terms of the match will be arranged on the ground Disabled. CapU Silva, of tho 21st Infantry, who started for the Klamath country with his company a few days since, has returned to Jacksonville for medical treatment. Ho was injured while iu Arizona, and tho late trip so aggravated tho wound as to compel liim to return here for relief. There also came with him one of the soldiers with a severe attack of erysipelas. Listen to Us. Wo know that not a tew of our subscribers around in the valley have more fruit and vegetables stored away in their cellars than they can use, and we want some of you to divide with us. You needn't go to the trouble to sell your apples and bring us the money, unless vou prefer to do bo, but just bring a few bushels of yonr apples, and some of your vegetables, within reach of our claws. - Cold Snap. For the past week old Jack Frost has shaken his beard in this vicinity every night, and caused all the little streams to feel the hardcess of his chilly grip. Glassware, crockery, and pnmp-pipes have done business on tick during the time. It has remained clear all tho while, with but a pleasant coolness in daytime, while tho hardier flowers and shrubs, such as crysanthe mums, dahlias, and roses, arc yet in full bloom. The Great Pictorial Animal. Hostetter's United States Almanac for 1873, ,for distribution gratis, throughoutthe United States, and all civilized countries of the Western Hemisphere, is now published and ready for delivery, in the English, Ger man, French, Norwegian, Welsh, Hol land, Swedish, Bohemian and Spanish languages, (and all who may wish to understand, the true philosophy of health should read and ponder the val uable suggestions it contains. In ad dition to an, admirable medical treatise on the causes, prevention and cure of a great variety of diseases, it embraces a large amount of information interest ing to the merchant, the mechanic, the miner, the farmer, the planter, and professional man ; and the calculations have been made for such meridians and latitudes as are most suitable for a cor rect and comprehensive National Calendae. The nature, uses, and extraordinary sanitary effects of Hostetter's, Dtomaeh Bitters, the staple tonic and alterative of more than half the Christian world, are fully set forth in its pages, which are also interspersed with pictorial il lustrations, valuablo recipes for tho household and farm, humorous anec dotes, and other instructive and amus ing reading .matter, original and select ed. Among tho Annuals to appear with the opening of the year, this will be ono of the most useful, and may be had for the asking. Tho proprietors, Messrs Hostetter & Smith, Pittsburgh, Pa., on receipt of a two cent stamp, will forward a copy by mail to any person who cannot procure one in his neighborhood. The Bitters aro sold in every city, town and village, and aro extensively used throughout the civilized world. Seeds and Plants. We are often interrogated as to the best place to buy seeds, shrubbery, flowering plants, etc.; what are the best varieties for our climate and soil, or the most beaitlilul to look at, and many other questions of similar import. As to a complete ansn or w e invariably give it up. We cm tell what tastes good or looks nice to us, but pass when further informa tion is required. If we wanted to buy anything of the kind wo should send tc some experienced seedsman a de scription of the soil and climate, get his advice and catalogue, and go at it. racre aic many in the country who will furnish seeds and plants, with the proper insti actions as to their cultiva tion. A, lady friend, who is fond of vegetables, shrubbery, &c, and who keeps-tlrtrcatalogues of all the princi pal dealers, says the best man to pur chase from is II. A. Dreer, 714 Chest nut street: Philadelphia, Pa , who will send you !a Catalogue of his produc tions to select from, with a full descrip tion of cich article and instructions how to cutivate, and will forward to you any srticle selected, securely pro- tected lroju injury. A WonhiY Cause. We learn tbat a subscription bas been started for tbe relief of Blra. Brothcrton, wbose hus band and jlder sons were lately killed by the Indians. In mid-winter, illy provided to meet tbe task, is thrust up on her thecare of the remainder ofher family, and her condition shonld elicit a more substantial evidence of sympa thy than mere words of condolence. Pass tho paper round. No contribu tion of money or stores can make good her loss, it is true, but they will serve the purpose of mitigating a suffering fully as acute and more exacting. "Business is Business." When the times get dull in your legitimate occu pation, dosomething-clser or take-ia something else that will help to pay expenses. We are led to make these suggestions by the information that a prominent livery man of our city has gone to peddling apples from a basket at the rate of four for a bit or two for five cents. Ice cream in season, we supposed 'But? thelivery business still goes on. Hoixowat Pills and Oixtmkxt. T. 1860-X: This wonderful vegetable res torative is the sheet-anchor of the feeble and debilitated. As a tonic and cordial for the aged and languid it has no1 equal among stomachics. As a rem edy for the nervous weaknes to which women are especially sub ject, it is superseding every other stimulant. In all cli mates, tropical, temperate or frigid, it acts as a specific in ev ery species of disorder which un dermines the bodily strength and breaks down the animal spirits.
