Public meetings are generally sup. posed to express by their action the sense of a community. A meeting was held here on Saturday last, the pro ceedings ol which will go abroad as representing the "sense" of the people of this county in reference to a great public tncaure: and in the name of the jKople ol this section, we protest againt so monstrous a fraud. The os tensible purpose of the meeting was to facilitate the construction of a railroad through this and lniqua vallies; iis real purpose was for Hliticnl ends, and mainly to farther the schemes of a few little Democratic office --eekers. It has been openly stated on the street by Democrat, that its only object wa to place certain prominent l.epubliean, and the l.Vjmblicnti pre oi Southern Oregon, in a false osition on the rail road issue, and we mnt say that it ha been a mot contemptible failure. The meeting wa an adjourned one. - committee had been apKintcd. I'nlc lic interest had been awakened, and a large number of jxjrsons were anxi onslv awaitinz a report likelv to ad vance the common interests, but werei woefully deceived.
