Our troops fell back to Lexington pursued by the reb els. Federal troops rapidly concentrated and saved Lexington. At noon tho rebels attacked Tails and were driven away to wards Winchester. The Army of tho Potomac occupies prac tically the position it did two months ago. It Is now quietly recruiting and recupera ting. For the next mouth the cavalry will do all tho lighting. A large number of o Ul cers have been detailed to bring in tlie drafted men. Rebels Price, Holmes nnd Marmndukc have gone to tho defense of Little Rock, Ark., which is in danger from Gen. Blunt. Rebel steamer Merrimnc, built by British contractors, has been destroyed by a Feder al gunboat. The Charleston "Mercury," of tho 27lh, says, In tho lato attack on Fort Wagner, the Federals held their position in front over two hours, under a galling (ire; the firing on the fort was terrillc, but the rebels were amply protected by bomb-proofs.
