According to his state ment tills business is much more profitable than the ch'cken industry. It only takes about half as much feed for the pheasants as for chickens, and eggs retail easily at $2.50 a dozen. A pair of birds bring $5. The hens are prolific layers, three of his birds dur ing tbe last season having laid 195 eggs. At the rate of $2.50 per dozen this makes a gross profit from these birds of over $40. Sold as mature birds the profit would be immensely increased. Mr. Bane uses an incuba- tor and brooder for hatching and rear ing the little ones. New York, Feb. 1.—Rammed by the steamer Colorado of the steamship Boston City of the Bristol City line was sunk in the ship channel near the Southwest Spit and about midway between Sandy Hook and Staten Isl- tad Sunday. No lives were lost, but only the difference of a few turns of the screws of the unlucky vessel saved her from being blown out of the wa ter. Had the engine room been sud denly deluged the boilers would have exploded. The collision tore away twenty-five feet of the port side of the boat, cut ting twelve feet below the water line and only about twenty feet from the engine compartment. The vessel Is probably a total loss. The question of blame will be much disputed. The collision occurred In sight of the American liner St. Louis, which was rounding the Hook on her way to New York. COLLISION IN TRAIN SHED Chicago, Feb. 1.—One man was killed, another probably fatally Injured and several others severely cut and bruised in a head-on collision in the train shed of the Union passenger sta tion here.
