Lou is having one of the handsomest residences in Southern Oregon built. The Royal Month and the Royal Disease. Sudden changes of the weather are especially trying, and probably to none more so than to the scrofulous and consumptive. The progress of scrofula during a normal October is commonly great. We never think of scrofula— its bunches, cutaneous eruptions and wasting of the bodily substance—with out thinking of the great good many sufferers from it have derived from Hood's Sarsaparilla, whose radical and permanent cures of this one disease are enough to make it the most famous medicine in the world. There is prob ably not a city or town where Hood’s Sarsaparilla has not proved its merit in more homes than one, in arresting and completely eradicating scrofula, which is almost as serious and as much to be feared as its near relative—con sumption. THE OLD RELIABLE Absolutely Pure. ' TRUE IS ND SUBSTITUTE They Found a Rich Pocket* George Ficke and Dick Traverse, two well-known prospectors, a few days ago had their labors rewarded by the discovery of a pocket that yielded nearly 41500. They were op erating on a hillside a few miles southwest of Jacksonville, to which point they had traced tbe lead from Jackson creek, and three feet under ground, in a porphyry dyke, cluster ed together, they found quite a num ber of little nuggets, which yielded gold In the sum above mentioned. The lucky miners are of tbe opinion that they will find more close by. A Pusillanimous Statute. The last legislature passed a law which should consign its author to the imbecile ward of an insane asylum. We refer to that which makes it a mis demeanor to steal a ride on a railroad train. It was invoked in Southern Oregon for the first time when Justice Berry Ashland sent two tramps calling them selves F. Summers and J. Dooly to the county jail for fifteen days for having committed the awful crime of riding in to that town on the brake-beam of a passenger train. Constable Long took them to Jacksonville Wednesday. An Old Offender It seems as if Walter Wyland, who is now confined in the Jackson county jail, has a record. He admits having served a term in the penitentiary, “for breach of promise.’’ It is said that Wyland is wanted in Idaho, where he escaped from a jail while being held on a charge of grand larceny. A number of other crimes are charged against him, but whether be is guilty of them has never been determined. It may be that Wyland will never bi tried in "this county, but returned to Idaho for tbe crime previously committed. Catarrh and Hay Fever Liquid Cream Balm is becoming quite as popular in many localities as Ely’s Cream Balm solid.
