Commenting on the fact that trade •bow* more activity thia Fall than it ha» for several years past, the Phila d.iphia Timet exp reales the opinion that the prospect is good for a contin uance of this activity, and assigns a* the chief reason for such an opinion the enlargement of the foreign market fur American products. Says the Timet: When it is remembered that never before have American product* and manufactures been thrown upon so many markets as during tho past year, and that the Exhibition is Intro ducing them to a still larger circle o •unsumers, it will be seen that we have much to hope for in this direction. Never until last year was fresh beet put into the London market by New York butchers, and now the amount •ent over is weekly increasing uulil it fbrrna a large proportion of the steam er«' freight. The trade of tho west coeat of South America has been mo Bopoilsed by England, but this summer a steamer from Boston carried out to Valparaiso a quarter of a million dol lar»’ worth of cotton«, such as could be manufactured in England, and yet tlie> can be sold at prices fully as low. And just as We are preparing to establish a Un« of «teamshlp« to Brazil, the Fall River mills have begun running on goods for that great South American nation. Our cutlery finds its way into •very market where Sheffield is known, and British steel surpasses ours neith er in temper nor polish. We have al most ceased to import paper, so good and eu cheap Is our own, and we are seriously thinking of competing with De la Rue for the London trade. We import British hosiery and underwear •till, and^ret a Vermont manufacturer, returned from England a few months •ioee, has declined orders from dealer ihvre buffivienc to keep his mills run ning fur a year at a handsomo profit. And now our gold is coming back to us by eve y steamer, what more could we ask ? Atmte Fair Beparl. The financial aff.drs of the late State Fair have been wound up, showing the receipts to have been about $19,000. The numbers of entries exceeded those of any previous year, while the amount received at the gate was con siderabie less. The premiums award« ed amounted to nearly $9,000, Includ ing the racing premiums. The num ber of medals awarded were—gold, 4 ; •liver, 6 ; bronze, 26 ; and diplomas, 16. A Special premium of $20 waa given by a San i r«i else.) firm for the best display of hoj«, and another by Vick for the largest and best varieties of cut flowers, amounting to $10 in all. About $250 were expended upon the miscellaneous department. Although the attendance was not so large as Wsyal, the State Fair of 1876 is regard ed in every respect as an entire suc cess, and under theJ management of officer« lor the ensuing year, the Agri cultural Society has an assurance of fu ture prosperity, even exceeding that ui ii*v past.
