ADOPTED AT SALEM ON APRIL 25, 187G, BY THE STATECONVENTION. (California St., one door west ofSachs Bros.,) Odd Fellows’ Building, aeksonvilie, Oregon, F’Hl'AY,.................................. MAY 26, 1876. (» amce C reek .—From a private letter received by a lady in Yreka, frmn the Galire Creek mines in Ore gon, the Journal extracts the following in reference to that mining district: Concerning the mines here, they are ( all turning out well. The English Company have completed their ditch ; have hydraulics running on both sets of their diggings, and are getting large returns for their labor. The Courtney gravel mines are also paying excellent this Winter and Spring. It is now a settled fact that there is a very extensive country here that will pay well, with good hydraulics, fully equal if not superior to the gravel mines of your State. I would also state that there is no longer a doubt | about the silver mines being good, i An assay er from Nevada came here lately, who stopped three weeks, and was so well pleased with his prospects I that he bought an interest in the Yank, started to Roseburg, to be back in three weeks to go to work. Galice Creek is getting to be a lively mining i camp. The two companies owning the rich gold quartz mines, 5 miles below, will both commence working their claims soon. A consolidated company, formed for the purpose of working gravel claims on the north side of Rogue river, are now construct ing a ditch, to be completed by the 1st of July. Mr. Bybee, of Jacksonville, is one of the principal men concerned in it. It is on the same range of the j English Co.’s mines, and prospects full as well. The range of gravel has been traced clear through and beyond Grave Creek, and prospects well wherever I tried, for a distance of 25 miles. JOHN BILGER, HORSE MEN, K. KUBLI, DEMOCRATIC PLATFORM The Democracy of Oregon in Convention a.txembled, re-affirms the platform ot princi ples adopted at the last Democratic State Convent ion, and adopt tho following in ad dition to the same, to-wit : JieMotred, That the action of the Demo cratic House of Representatives of the I ni- ted States, in ferreting out corruption and bringing crim.nais to justice, merits tho commendation of every true patriot. That the large influx of Chinese immigration to tho Slates of the Pacific coast ot America has been a curse to the country ; that the Chinese are a people that have not, and never can be brought to have, any interest consistent with the welfare and prosperity of onr Government and its insti tutions ; and that we pledge ourselves to use our best endeavors for the adoption ot such measures as will prevent and cure this growing evil. Resolved, That our inestimable system of common schools, and our no less valuable scheme of religious toleration, are the work manship of IJemocratic hands, and the fruits ot Democratic policy ; that it is the exclusive right and duty of the Slate to provide for the education ot its children ; and it having been a principle established in the formation of our State Constitution that no public funds of any class should be used for sectarian schools or societies we declare our faithful adherence to this prin ciple, anti oppose any invasion of it ; that it is the inalienable right of every citizen to worship God according to the dictates of his own conscience, and no political disabil ities should be incurred by reason of relig ious Isdief; and while we will defend these principles and institutions to the full extent, we deprecate all attempts to raise sectarian issues as utterly uncalled for and reprehen sible and meriting the emphatic condemna- tion of every good citizen. 1776.
