The production of a tail is thus described : “The comet being a body of atmosphere, a transpar ent globe, the rays of the sun, striking it, Instead of heing absorbed or reflect ed, pass right on through it. By the friction thus undergone they become heated, and consequently produce light and become visible. In this heated condition these rays leave the comet and pa«s off info space, remaining visi ble so long as they retain the heat, and thus forming the so-called comet’s tail —the surface of the comet being con | vex, which turns the rays towards a focus, thus causing the frequent fan shaped tails.” i MANUFACTURING CHEMIST, And Wholesale and Retail Dealer in DRUGS AND MEDICINES, PERFUMERY, From the largest and bes bred Fowls m the World.
