If this town is willing to give
1100,000 for an opposition railroad,

burden of which we have com
plained for these many years.
The people of Oregon are taxeJ
for $ 3,000 to pay an attorney gen
eral whose opinion goes no furt' er
than, perhaps, to create a lew
moments thought. This is one of
the useless ollices the last legis
lature might have abolished with
out fear of being censured by the
people.

ergan, representing a Southern
Idaho cattle company, was in the
city again last night, havine com
pleted u purchase of 1500 head of
steers at Eugene. The price, he

Eastern Oregon. Stock is raised
in large numbers in tho Willamette
