April 86tb, Thi prices will la) .VI and 7.r cent. The play still be, ' The World Against Iter" by Frank Harvey. Tbe New York Herald s iys: The World Against Her, by Frank Harvey, author of the Wage, of Sin, wa produced l.t night at the Grand Opera House before a large . audience anil proved to be one of the .trongest Iiieiooramas on tne .luge to-lay. i ne inter est is artistically worked up from the In-ginning and well sustained throughout, the curtain finally falling on a scene that i so sffeotiva that the audience a rather rare thing for thi. city -with one accord delayed itsexit, although it sta half past eleven, to applaud while the leading churacter bowed their acknowledg ment before the curtain. To say that every lly in the house wa delighted would be hut a meager expreion of the truth. They were held spellbound through the most interesting scenes, and were wrought up to a pitch of tare enthusiasm. All this areedneto the workman iMp "f the author alone. There is re illy not a weak character iu the pbtf, Madge Carl bin, a w rongly suspected and cruelly divorced wife, with a noble forbearance and loving carts of 1 siinnlicitv. completely captures the h the audience. The part of .lames Carlton, the injured In t forgiving husband, and the part ot Gilbert Blair, the accomplished villain who gives the key to the whole drama, are also well drawn characters. Bob Millet, a showman, i- an excellent comedy character, and the part of Sally, hi. wife, i. admirable. Those who bate seen the play will indorse the opinion we hate expressed as to the merit of "The World Against Her." A Novelty. There arrived in Portland Thursday two traiu loads of threshing machinery, horse potters and engine, which hud crossed the cottinent from Massillou, Ohio. The trains ran only by day on passenger time, and were loaded with agricultural machinery manu factured by Russell A Co , nnd consigned ex clusively to their Portland branch house bearing the same name. This is the largest and most valuable single shipment of agri cultural machinery ever sent to Oregon from the East. The machinery sold by Russell A Co. has an established reputation tor merit and excellence. Jerry Hay, of Harrisburg, is local ngent for their machinery, and will have an office in Eugene where orders may be taken, to ac commodate farmers in thi vicinity for the present season. Take a look at their ma chinery before purchasing. To tilt- Public. EroKNK, April ID, 188'J.
