The tirst day of the Fair was ushered in
bv a beautiful, clear skv. In the pavilion i
ail were intent 011 making the best display of j
articles possible. Hie secretary und usMst
ants were crowded to their utmost in making
entries, lty the time of opening in the ev
ening the laigu and well lighted pavilion was
tilled with ariicl.s on exhibit, at ranged iu a
manner that did credit to tho superinten
dents of ditl'ereut divisions. The attendance
was good, nud all seemed pi cm fed. The
I'iremau's Hand gave some excelent selec
tions. At the race track all the stable mid sheds
were tilled to overflowing with horsis, cattle,
sheep and swine. The poultry department
was fairly well represented.

The second day opened with the best of
weather. Tho pavilion wns in better order,
but still the exhibits poured iu until 2 p. in.
Iu the afternoon aud evening the judges
were quite busy awarding premiums. In the
evening a large crowd tilled the pavilion ad
miring the various article on exhibition, and
enjoying the tine music rendered by the
band.
Mr Geo Uelshuw has the best exhibit iu
the pavilion. He has 130 varieties of wheat
in the sheaf and iu sacks. His exhibit of
wheat is one that cannot be beaten on the
earth, and is more complete than the one
he took tho blue ribbous with at Salem last
week. Mr llclsbaw has done more effective
advertising for Oregon than any doen men
withiu her bound. The glass blower is on
hand uud gives a nice little show at a mod
erate cost. The fruit department i sadly
neglected but what there is, is good. I ho
vegetable liue is well represented. The la
dies show lUnnv varieties of the choicest
llowcrs. The fancy work department is well
represented and cuunot b beaten anywhere.
Oregon maliuluettires are somewnai scarce,
but slill they till iiuitca niche in the huge hall.
Canned fruit and jellies are well repn seated.
