All kinds of vegetables and fruit grow finely here. There are two eucalyptus trees in the Captain's donryard, the first I hate ever seen in this Lttitude. They seem to thrive a luxuriantly as in tneir native Soil. , If the dear Deoula of EtiL-ene anil vldnitv had but a faint idea of the rest and refreahinent awaiting them here by the sea they would, I think, be willing to brave the fatigue attendant upon the brief journey by wagon and boat to me silver sand of the Siuslaw, Have had sail in the boat nicked up off the cupe uot long since by two hrave k-irls. It is from the Columbia, a fulling boat with a capacity of six tons, and bearing the name of her lost owner upon her bow. Captain Cox proposes to cross the bar with her to-morrow. Several liartiea at ilia beaoh last week renort having a pleasant time. Clams, mussels and fish a-e to be had iu abundance, l'.errics are plentiful on the hills, and sardines in the river. We take the following telegrams, con cerning tho hop market from Thursday's Oregoniant Private dispatches just received here-Puyallop, W T) report that the great impending failure of the hup crop in New lork state is an rccomplished fact and that largo aieas of the hop fields have gone black and entirely beyoud rtcovery. Prices are advancing rapidly, and it the least mishap be ill's the r.nghkh crop prices will go up with a bound. It is now kuown that - thero will not be enough hops raised in the United States to supply the demand and that im portations from Europe must follow." A Now York dispatch of July ".Yet is as fol fallows: "The Commercial Pullotin says that advices at hand from the hup growing section of this state are the worst received. The probabilities, in the estimation of local merchant are decidedly against more than one-third of last year' yield. Sales have not boeu made at above 25 cents iu this market, but 30 and 31 cent was paid in the interior. The first bale of new state hops was received from Cooporstown yesterday. We are creditably informed that a Portland capitalist stands ready to put water works in operation iu Eugene inside of four, mouths from, this date, provided the gentlemen that now hold a charter from the City Council will forfeit thoir rights to the rortland man. The charter -.'ranted allows the gentlemen until Jan 1, 1W7 to complete their Works and have one mile of mains laid. If tho owner of the charter do not intend ulacing the wurks in position, we doubt not that they would willingly surremler all their rights iu the matter. The capitalist who desires to put the works in is abundantly able, and will not atdc anyone to take water unless it is Vvanted. : Thus it will be seen that our growing city is upon the eve of another much needed and desired enterprise.'
