R. a Haru Triable! Ii Ireland. Tit mt M Brp. The present agitation in Ireland are bringing that unhappy country once more prominently U-fore the world. Opprewion, m'mrule, periodic famine, and the noul grinding :varitioun- of the landlord, have g'jaded the jeojile beyond endurance; and iu adopting mcaim and meaiurca whereby they may be enabled to live, they merely awrt a right which U-long to all of God'a ereatorea, Tbe Land League haa grown to be a power in mining the inhuman demand of men w ho are alien to the aoil and who quaiidr-r in foreign land tbe wealth which u wrung from the aweat and UAl of the wretched native. Jnh Undlord compel their tenant to alave and drudge Ly in and yoar out, under pain of lUnation; and, when the Itar vent cornea, the takmater, the idlera, aweep away narly all tbe grain, . , whila the wwker and hi atarved wife and children are left bdt a mere pit tance to keep body and aoul together. Driver to dejxir, tb wretched and cpprMed people have arivn and tlv inand tliat their terrible burden thall be li'ghtenad. Utey have again enun dated tbe d'f lrine for awrting which John Mitchell w tranport-d over thirty y-skrK ago that until there i enough of harvt left to feed and cl'Xb tbe tenant' family, n't a grain ahall tbe landlord liave. People who are not tvyn'uiUA with the Irinh land lord aytnn, are apt to mixjudge the Mr. T. L Talbot made a aeriea of experiment regarding the size of drops and their ue in meanuring medicines, etc. lie finds tliat liijuid containing a small proportion of water afford a small drop, and vice vena. Gmelin's statement "that the cohesion of0 liquid ia pretty nearly in proportion to their ptifjc gravity" is in question, and the fact that alcohol and mercury afford nearly the same number of drops to the drachm, certainly throw considera ble doubt upon the matter. The size of drop ia affected principally by the cohesion of the liquid, and the form of lip over which the drop fall. Dottles with ground neck, wide, tbin even tips, give fair results, but are not so ac curate u "droppeta," The beht of these will not, however, average at all well The administration of powerful medicines should not be attempted by drop, and thia mode of m-aurement is, in any rase, inadmixsable if the quantity exceeds half drachm. The Urgent drop is formed by syrup of gum arable, forty-four to the drachm, and the smallest by chloroform, 259 to tbe drachm. A a general rule, tincture, fluid extracts and essential oils yield a drop less than one half the size of water, and acid and solution give a drop but slightly smaller than water.
