Some time ago a challenge appeared in the Trumpet NoUs, published at Elkheart, In diana, at the instance of the "Uuiversity Brass Baud," Eugene City, challenging any band in the state t play, except the East and West Portland, and th Aurora bands. The Lakeview cornet band has accepted the challenge, and also includes every other baud in Grant, Umatilli, Baker, Josephine, Curry, Coos, Clatsop, Tillamook, Uuion, Polk, Washington and Wasco counties. If the University Band does not "take water," the quiet hills of Southern Oregon may be awakened in the near future with as lively music as wai made by the Modoe band, years ago. statesman.
