The sufn which m a small one. and of an old pattern was punct ured with the point of a pick just alwve the lock ou the door and a quantity of powder poured into the cavity of the lock, and a fuse attached so at to reach the jiowdcr. The door was thus blown open. The bur g'ar was evidently playing for higher stakes as Mr. Adair, the railroad agent, had taken about t.'llK) in a sack to the dcH.t that after- uoou, aud the burglar no doubt expected to find it there. In this however he was dis appointed as Mr. Adair had deposited it in the safe of Underwood Bros. As soon Tues day morning as the robltery was discovered telegrams were sent up and down the road, aud information of the facts given to the employees ou the regular trains describing a man suspicioncd of the crime. The efforts to secure the perpetrator of t'.ie robbery were attended witli success as a man was arrested at Cottage drove Tuesday evening, against whom there is somv strong evidence. He was brought to Eugene Wednesday, aud ou Thursday 'evening a preliminary examination was held before Justice Alexander. Prom the evidence it appear that he was in Eu gene the evening of the robbery about eight o'clcok aud that uext morning at live o'clock ho was ut (ioshen six miles above here. He represented there that he had came over from the Long Tout, aud had been lost in the hills all nig'it, ami asked different ipies tious ah. nit Eugene; as to its population, whether there wcrj any hotels and its dis tance from Goshen, stating that ho had not beeu at Eugene. At Cottags (irove w here he was arrested he w is seen to deposit a package which on iuspjctimi proved to con tain a couple of drills, a can of powder, and some fuse ideutiod with that with which the safe had been blown open. About the same amount of money taken from the safe was found ou his person among which were telve dimes, a live cent coin, and a copper Agent Adiir testified that coius smilar to these iu quantity, ami value were in the safe on the evening of the robbery. Justicj Al exander bound him over iu the sum of $:!00 to await the action of the (Jrand Jury, which, f'K' to secure, he was taken to jail, He gives his name ai W. H. Crawford. A Wnoso. It has been said that the dir ect way of telling a toadstool from a mushroom was to eat it. If you die, it was a toad stool. If you live it was a mushroom. A similar method is employed in the selection of husbands. First, marry the man if he kills you he wa a bad husband. If he makes the woman happy, he is a good husband- There is really no other criterion, as the proof of the cake is iu the eating of it. Some men, young and old, seem to w oman unexceptionable, indeed very desirable is long ns they aie single, are perfectly horrid as sooii as they get married. All the latent bruto there is the heart comes out as soon as a sensitive and delicate being seeks her hap piness in his companionship. The honey moon lasts but a very short time. The re ceptions, the calls and the parties are soon over. Then the two sit down to make home happy. If sho marries a man fond of society he will soon get bored, and will turn ami L'o to sleen on the loutce or sofa. Then he w ill take his hat and go to the club room ' or sal on to see tho ' boyi," and perhaps not L'o home till iiioniuii'.
