Dr. J. B. -Wells, who practiced dentist ry here several years, ago, was in town this 'week on business. After leaving Cervallis with his family in 1892 he took up his residence in central New York, bat on account of ill health he was ad vised to change his residence to a higher altitude and for some time has been liv ing in. the Black Hills. The county clerC' ' turned over to the sheriff this Week, pursaant-rfr the order made by the county court at its last ses sion, the delinquent tax lists for the years since 1883, and the. sheriff is re quired to enforce the collection. And there is sure to be some lively time around the sheriff 's office. Up to 1892, the delinquent taxes amounted to about 5,000, including taxes on' mortgages that cannot be collected. Since '92 the amount due the county make! a very respectable figure. There, is apt to be some very angry prop erty owners when the lists are published; Rich - men and poor men-, residents and non-residents are included in - the long array of delinquent tax payers. Even newspapers are represented, there being $28.26 charged up against til - Benton Leader Publishing Co. It m probable that this enforcement pf ewfiectiou will make the possession of the old tax re ceipt profitable. . . 'r - ' - The property advertised last year in cluded, according to instructi0p, only that the taxes against which Sheriff Os barn deemed collectable. The present movement includes good, bad and indif ferent charges against property and may develop some curious things. Populist Resolutions.
