The franchise having been granted by the City Council last evening and the County Court having granted a similar franchise at its last session, the company will at once incor porate and actual work begun within the next 30 days and cars running to Job's Addition by March 1st next. Don't Of PREHISTORIC KEUCS. Geo. Mollenkof, of near Pendle ton, has a collection of remarkable fossils discovered bv him on his ranch, says the Tribune. He un earthed them in a canyon in a strata ten feet below the surface, and, judging by t heir position and surroudings, they have been lying there for thousands of years. The relics are those of a mastodon and although the skeleton is not com plete, t here is sufficient, bones to show that the animal was twice as large as any now found on the face of-lhe globe, including even the huge Asiatic elephant. In proportion to the joint, and esti mating according to the animals ou earth now a-days, the monster was certainly not less than fourteen fek hiffh. The ioint from the knee to the thigh is thirty-one inches in length, and the swivel joint is seven inches in diameter, whereas that of a horse is only two inches. The bones are in an excellent state of preservation, and Mollenkof says that he in tends to donate and forward them to the state agricultural college at Coivallis. A N. Y. DRYGOODSMAN. Cremation is coming more and more into vogue in Germany, in spite of the expense and certain legal difficulties which render its performance in some parts almost an impossibility. A church congregation at Red Bank, N. J., paid a big price to get a minister who was a hustler. lie hustled around the first week and got his facts and figures, and on Sunday he told them that there was more meanness in the town to the square foot than any other place in the world.
