Murder at Albary. Dispatches received here vest;rday min ing from AUiaiiy announce meager particu lars of a murder in Albany, when in Uji i. Campbell, of that place, met his death at the hinds of W W. S mil lers, of this placi formerly editor of the Benton Leader. Satin tiers left Corvallis Tuesday for Albany, in forming a friend that he h id just heard fron Albany and that he ha 1 somethiu ' to at tend to there. Wednesday evening about 7:40 o'clock he met Campbell walking on the street with Miss Mattie Allison, wliei. Saunders shot Campbell, the shot taking ef feet and his victim fell from the sidewalk, when Saunders shot the second time, bin without effect. Campbell died the uexi morning at 6 o'clock from the effect of the shot. The assault was entirely without provocation, the dispatches so st ite S um ders was at rested a few minutes after, and at the time of going to press, his pre imin.i ry examination was not cuiiclu led. It i. reported that Saun lei s was t be inatrieii in a few weeks to a sister of the young la!j with whom Cimpbdl was walking at the time of the sin o i g. Clara roitz. We are pleased to state th it negotiations are pen ling to hear this distinguished Cali fornia Lady Lawyer an I Dramatic Orator give one of her famous Dramttic representa tions the life and character .if Co.. Clara Foltz is kuowu iu California as me of the most brilliant lawyers and has the reputation is being one of the most sell d ir!y and ele.ant orators in America. We bespeak for thi fair talented lady a crowded house, should she appear here. The following notice was taken f-om the & F. Post in reference to her appearance iu Sao Fiaucisco: "Haviug a good voice, engaging manner! , and dressing vi ith excellent taste, displac ing c nstt.nt e idenee of strict and caret iJ parental t mining, and wearing always tie jewel of true womanhood, she has become a great favorite." A Warl g. Since the Oregon Pacific Eailroad compa ny have constructed their track to the uart bouses on the rive-, it has become a custom viith the lioys of the town to jump onto trains while iu motion and ride on .he fl t and box cars to and from the depot. This is a very dangerous practice, and if indulged in will surely result iu a serious if not tatal accident. Over the track between the iL pot and the river there is a telephone wii e which is at the right height to break a man's neck while standing on t p of a box car, and ia considered a very dangerous trip, even to the train men, .mil much more so to boys who are ever on the alert f. r a ride on a passing train. The city council should pass an ordinance making this foolish pi; c tice a tineable offense. An Overcoat Thief.
