Dwellers in the glorious State of Colorado were treatel on the 24th day of April to a continuous snowfall of nine hours, which left the whole country under a fleecy mantle to the depth of about twenty inches. Ore gonians feel privileged to growl be cause of light frost and cold winds. The spring of 1885 will long be re membered by residents of this valley for the absence of sickness. Fevers generally prevail at this season of the year, but so far as we can learn peo ple are singularly free this spring from the visitation of these maladies. The beautiful weather must have something to do with it. The Jacksonville Sentinel says, that an enterprising New Yorker has made the O. & C. R. R. Co. a proposition to buy their tunnel on the Siskiyou to be used as a cellar for a large ale and porter brewery which he proposes to erect there. In all probabilities the company would do well to sell it, as it will hardly ever do them any good. The land department connected with the Northern Pacific railroad has just received information that, by or der of President Cleveland, the U. The First National bank is also being removed to North Yakima. Lake County Examiner: During the week Goose lake valley was visited by storms of rain and snow to an ex tent to insure our farmers against a drouth during the coming, summer, and making it certain that a large crop of grain will be raised. Friday George Ross and S. M. Keenan have re cently had some quartz from their lead in Yamhill ounty assayed. It showed con siderable gold and some silver, pnning out about $575 of gold to the ton. The mine i located near North Yamhill, and the gentle men think they have struck a bonanza. An attempt was made recently to destroy the office of the Yakima Signal, by blowing up the building. No land nnder the sun is so replete with historic memories as the rugged country in the Northwestern corner of the Afghanis tan, where the first clash of arms between Russia and England is expected. According to an offisial report, the total amount of the circulating mediums in the 'lauds of the people is $1,100,000,000. Of this amount less than ons-tweuty-tifth is in sillars and less than one-tenth in silver cei i icates. As much of either kind of money is used in 'ie payment of bills, the infer ence is that every man holps on to the other varieties anrl works off the silver dollars, or the certificates representing tltnee coins, with all possible speed. This shows that foresighted man are distrustful of the83cent dollar.
