At the last Session of the Oregon legislature, a memorial to Congress w as these introduced and passed Among other things, it sef'fipirth that the Northern Pacific Rail Road eorr.- r.any had, for a great-many years held possession of a large tract of lands and thereby prevented it froai being occu pied by actual settlers. The same hav ing been granted to that Company by Congress, it the said Company would build the Northern Pacilic Rail Road by a certain time. It also stated that this Company had failed to comply with the act of Con gress, in building the road, and that at that time, t'ae Oregon Rail Road and Navigation Company were then build ing a line of Rail road, over the same route, without subsidy, end therefore it was no longer necessary, for the North ern Pacific, to retain the benefits of the grant. That Congress should declare it forfeited and throw the land open for actual settlement.
