Jossnl Emest. Pastor. Pay as Yon Go. It will le well for those who have business with the County Clerk to remember that according to the new law all fees must be paid when the work is done. If you have a claim aeainst the county, no matter how small the amount the law says yesj must pay to the Clerk the urn of three cents when you file your claim. If yon have deeds or mortgages to record, and are anxious that it should be done im mediately, don't natter yourself that all that is necessary will be to send the papers by mail to the Clerk with a request to record immediately. Unless the requisite amount of coin accompanies the papers they will sot her recorded, and some man with a sec. ond mortgage will come in and have it re corded, and thus the "first will be last and the last will be first." Tbe law also requires the Clerk to collect one dollar for every poll I took, sent oat, but jast who he is to collect this dollar from the legislators failed to des ignate. Perhaps it is another means of Itleeding anzions candidates. New Officer Under the new law pass ed by the last Legislature each county in the State is to have a sheep inspector ap pointed by the County Court. The law re quires the inspector, upon being notified, in writing, by airy owner of sheep, that any other band of sheep is affected with scab, to immediately examine said sheep, and if be finds them diseased to require the owner to keep them in an inclosnre and proceed to on re them, anil if he neglects to do so the inspector is authorised to take charge of the aheep and care them, charging all expeuse to the owner. Any person wishing to drive aheep oat of the State, or from one county! to another, moat first get a certificate froi the Inspector that the sheep are free from disease. The County Court appointed Lewis Wilson "sheep doctor" for this county, but lie not aspiring to so much honor, resigned, and Hon. A. M. Withain was appointed "M. D." (mutton doctor) in his place. w LOCAL MOTE8 Get your valentines at E. Tl were married in tLe fall of 187), and following summer their married life blessed with twins, both girls. Leas two years later the woman, who was eighteen years old, gave birth to four c dren, three girls and a hoy, the latter livi only a few days. In the summer of three more girls registered at that hum; hearth, and in 1875 a boy arrived soli and alone. Seven years after marriage the arrival of another cluster of four, this time two boys and tw girls, wag an event that created some consternation, and two years ago two more little flaxen-haired girls came to the fortunate couple. A Gala Time. This may be trsfy said of Jhe party winch will be given by the Cor vallis Social Club on next Tuesday evening at Hamilton's Hall. Every preparation is being made to render it a complete Luecess. The best mnsia and a good prompter have been secured. Apart from the pleasure offered the proceed are to be devoted to the benefit of our fire department As the tire laddies do not hesitate or stand back when they are called upon, we think our citizens should show their appreciation of them and come right forward with at least the price of a ticket. Even if you do not dance shew that you value the "boys' 41.50 worth at least. Fire. This was what the alarm bell in dicated on last Wednesday about noon time. The boys were soon on hand and had their -"masheens" out and started. After palling eome distance, nearly bursting a "wizzen," they reached the residence of A. Can thorn, of which the roof was found te be on fire. The hook and ladder track was feat on the ground and at once organized a bucket bri gade, who extinguished the incipient confla gration. Tbe damage was about 9100. The engine and hose boys did not mind the ran, bat to find mo water when they arrived on the scene was what made them hot in the collar. - 1 mmm . . 1 .. i t In 1 AW.
