Hawkins lectured at Hamil ton's Opera House last night, but as we had gouo to pres3 before time, we. have no re port of the lecture. New Orleans molasse3, London Layer and Seedless Raisins, Citron, Currants, Mince Meat and Eastern Cranberries, are a few of a large stock of Holiday Groceries at Rays. We understand that one of our neighbor ing farmers plowed up and captured a pair ,,f white mice last week and has them in a cage at his home a few miles west of town. They will make beautiful pets. Nick Beason has purchased the two- story frame building formerly occupied as a ramn and blacksmith shop on second street, and is having it refitted for a store building. Look out for A d vertisemen T of CvN'e to Cottage Grove. On last Wednesday morning Dr. F. Cau thorn left Corvallis to locate perma nently at Cottago Grove in Lane county. The Dr. was raised in Corvallis, and with the exception of a tew years that he was in the east, pursuing the studies of hi3 pro fession, has been in our own midst from early childhood. We all know him and everybody respects him. His practice has been successful here, and wo regret that he should think it for his interests to change his location. Aside from his thorough knowledge of his profession, the Dr. will be an ornament to society wherever he may go, and we bespeak for him a success ful career in his profession. He carries with him? the best wishes of a host of friends, the Gazette included. He de serves success and has the learning and ability to insure it. Insurance Paid. F. A. Chenowe.th, president agent of the Phoenix Insurance Company in this city, on last Tuesday paid to Joseph Emrick 51000, being the full amount of the policy of insurance in that company on Mr. E. 's dwelling, that was de stroyed by tire last month. In mentioning this fire we take another opportunity of calling the attention of our city council to the ne eessity of a cistern in that part of town, as we all remember that on the occasion that fire the fire department stood powerless to save the buildincr. although the fire had just started. Silver Wedding. On Inst Sunday evening our fellow-townsman, M. Stock, and his excellent wife, celebrated the twenty-fifth anniversary of their wedding at their residence in this city. The guests were few in number and confined to the most intimate friends of the parties. Among those from abroad we notice Mr. E. Beck and daughter, of Portland ; Mr. I. P. Eisenbach. of San Francisco, and Mrs. N. Banm ; P. Cohen, wife and daugh ter, arid Mr. Ala. Harris, of Albany. A . large number of handsome and costly presents were presented, testifying the high esteem in which the parties are held by their numerous friends. On last Monday, the 7th inst., the Oregonian entered on the thirtieth year of its existence, having been founded in 1850, when Oregon was little less than a howling unknown wilderness, as a newspaper, by T. J. Dryer. For years it was nothing more than in common with the stereotyped " country exchange," but with the opening up of the fruitful valleys of the State, and the advancement made on all sides as the tide of immigration tnmed toward the Web-foot State, the Oregonian steadily grew in importance, until now has, with its many facilities, become a pow er in the State.
