This map show 3 the whole United states and Territories in a groud, from surveys to 1875, with a million places on it, such as towns, cities, villages, mountains, lakes, rivers, streams, goldmines, railway stations, &c. Send 25 cents to Lloyd Map Company, Philadelphia, and you will get a copy by return maill F or tlie In te re s t o f a ll P a rtie s.— There can now be no doubt of the wisdom of the course pursued by Governor Bram- lette, with reference to the last Gfand Gift Concert of the Kentucky Library. The short postponement to February 27th will insure the sale of every ticket, which will be moreisatisfactory to every ticket holder, and more for the Interest of the Library, and that there may be no doubt o, its com ing off this time, the Governor proposes to return every ticket holder’s money in case of failure. D edication .— The M. E. Church, of this city, will be dedicated on Sunday, January 17, 1875, Elder Hines officiating. On the Wednesday evening following there will be a supper given, the proceeds of which will be devoted to the church. F ire ! F ire .— The Board of Trustees of Ba ker City recommend that the citizens meet at Cleaver’s Hall on this, Wednesday even ing, January G, 1975, at 8 o’clock, P. EASTABROOK, Clerk. , F estival .— The Festival on last Wednes day evening, at the Railroad House, in aid of the Sisters’ School, was a very enjoyable affair. The receipts amounted about one hundred and eighty dollars. Mr. Tracy, Deputy Postmaster at this city, was absent to Union for the past two or three days. Things did not go as smooth .at the Postoffice as when he is present. There was a great deal of grumbling. R. Alexander, the gentlemanly clerk at Bamberger & Frank’s, has our thanks for a fine pair of gent’s pocket scissors. They are mighty handy about a printing office. Never suffer long from a Cough. At this age of tho world, when you can get Ayer’s Cherry Pectoral, it' is a criminal neglect if you do not cure it. Be wise in time, The thanks of our Carrier is due to A. J. That ev«ry chimney or flue that may hereafter be built within the City shall have walls of good quality of brick or stone, At least four inches in thickness, and the bottom be at least six inches iii thickness of the same material, and to be laid in good lime mortar,and be plastered on the inside , and when passing through or near woodwork, be plastered,on the outside. No chimney or flue shall be built which shall have any joist or timber rest ing on or entering into the same further than will leave at least six inches between the end thereof and the chimney or flue. They shall be well secured and shall ex tend at least, three feet above the roof of the building to which they are attached, measuring from the point where said chimney or flue passes through such roof, And shall extend at least two feet below the ceiling of the first story of such build ing, and should such chimneys or flues be deemed unsafe to the building or buildings adjoining (by the Fire Warden) they shall be carried up to such a liigbt as may be deemed necessary, not to exceed three feet above the extreme height of said buil ding or buildings adjoining. S ec . 2. Every stove pipe shall be se curely riveted at the joints from at least two feet below the upper ceiling to the top of said pipe. S ec . 5. No stove pipe shall be placed nearer than sixteen inches to any wall, ex cept at right angles therewith in passing through the same, nor nearer than sixteen inches to the wall of an adjoining building. A ll stove pipes passing through, the roof of any building shall extend at least three feet above the roofof the building to which they are attached, measuring from the point where such pipe passes through such roof, and if in the opinion of the Firew ar den, they be deemed unsafe to the building or buildings adjoining, they shall be ex tended up to such a hight as may be deem ed necessary, not. to exceed three feet above, the extreme height of said building or buildings adjoining. S ec . 4. No stove pipe shall enter any flue unless said pipe shall be at least eighteen inches from either floors or ceil ings. S ec . 5. The openings where any stove pipe goes through a partition, ceiling or roof of a building, shall in all cases be at« lea-t four inches in diameter larger than the size of the pipe, and where opemflgs arc in the ceilings or partitions, the said openings shall be protected by double col lars ef métal, with holes in the same for ventilation, and where the pipe passes through the roof shall be prelected by a tin or sheet iron sheet, in such a manner that tiie pipe will not be nearer than two inciies from any wood work. S ec . 5. Ail owners or occupants of any building within the city, in which there is a stove pipe shall, when notified by the Fire Warden, comply with the foregoing requirements, and also replace a bad or detective stove pipe with a new one, when so ordered. S e c . 7. That when any flues, chimneys or stove pipe, constructed prior to the pas sage of this ordinance, shall be deemed un safe, .the ; Fire Warden shall notify, in- writing, |the owner or occupant of the building,that the same must be repaired of*removed, in from one to fifteen days, at the option of tho Fire Ward,en, and if the party or parties so notified shall persist in using any flue, chim nej, or stovepipe which endangers the building to which it is attached or adjoining building, the Fire Warden shall cause the samer to be re paired or removed, and the cost of such repairs shall be made at the expense of the owner or occupant of the building. S ec . 8. No stove shall stand within two. feet of any wooden or cloth wall, unless such wail is fully protected by tin or zinc plaies ¡fastened thereon, and all persons using lires in stoves shall cause to have placed under such stove zinc or other un- coinbustable material sufficient to protect the floors from fires. S ec . 9- The Fire Warden of this Oity shall at all reasonable times, have the right to enter any building within the city for the purpose of discovering or ascertain ing any violation of this ordinance. . sec . 10. No person shall wilfully or ma liciously make a false alarm of fire. S ec . il. That whenever the F irew ar den deems it necessary for the safety of any buildingor adjoning buildings,to have any accumulation of shavings, hay, straw, pa per or other highly com bus table material removed from any place, he shall notify the |owner or occupant of such building, who shall at once have the same removed.
