Albany people will be glad to read tbs following, their sympathies being entire ly with Mrs. Cowan in the fight made against her by the Bank ot California, and they admire bar for ths backbone she has displayed In the affair : Mit. Sarah E. Cowan, who a week age was brought here under a decree of the Uuilsd States district court to compel her to make conveyance of certain real property sold under execution by the United States marshal to saiisf r a judg ment against her husband held by the Bank of California, was discharged from custody this afternoon. The discharge was msde upon her own application and not opposed by Mr. Zera Snow, counsel for the bank. Bet, on the other haod, Mr. 8no v waived the right to demand that she par tee costs ot the proceeding, be paying them himself. This notn Recorder Neal received from Portland several documents to record in the book of deeds, conveying; the rest dence property at the corner of 4th and Ferry street in this city, known as the Cowan pronerty to the Bank of Califor nia. But it does not contain the signa ture ot Mrs. Cowan, instead there ia an order ot the court to execute for her, and as and tor her act a deed to the pro perty. Resides this is the deed ot Mr. Cowan exeootad by him January 11, 1898, whish Mrs. Cowan refused to sign, and two or three court documents in the case. Notwithstanding th a there are lawyers who declare that it does not con vey her dower right. It transnires that the reason the Rank of California wanted to force Mrs. Cowan's signature to a deed of the prop arty ia this city was because they have an opportunity to sell it, but cannot con vey a good title o long as Mrs. Cowan holds a dower right in the nronerW. This atone time the offer i in sell at $500 and the bank waa foolish In not accepting it. Wholesale Shoplifting.
