Mr Conrad Meyer, was on the tiank of
the Calapcoia, in the rear of the ice
works, when be fell down 'he bant into
the river, a distance of forty or fifty
feet. A gentleman who witnessed the
affair gave the alarm, and Mr John IV
kins, who was at home near by, rushed
down the bank and plunged into the
ri.-er after the boy, and af'er a vigorions
swim, caught hold of him and soon had
him safe on the bank. It was a prompt
and brave act, and Mr Oeakins deserves
a medal, the boy was taken home and
is now recovered from the effects of the
accident.
